  1. 1. Test Charge Response of a Dusty Plasma with Grain Size Distribution and Charging Dynamics

    Författare :Muhammad Shafiq; Michael A. Raadu; Jens Juul Rasmussen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dusty plasmas; Complex plasmas; Grain size distribution; Grain charging dynamics; Lorentzian distribution; Kappa distribution; Test charge response; Delayed shielding; Energy loss; Drag force; Wake field.; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis reports analytical and numerical results for the electrostatic response of a dusty plasma to a moving test charge. Two important physical aspects of dusty plasmas, namely grain size distribution and grain charging dynamics were taken into account. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Titan’s ionosphere and dust : – as seen by a space weather station

    Författare :Oleg Shebanits; Jan-Erik Wahlund; Wolf Dietrich Geppert; Olle Björneholm; Erik Vigren; Cesar Bertucci; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Titan; Cassini; Ionosphere; Dusty plasma; Ion-ion plasma; Langmuir probe; aerosols; tholins; Space and Plasma Physics; Rymd- och plasmafysik;

    Sammanfattning : Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, is the only known moon with a fully developed nitrogen-rich atmosphere, its ionosphere is detectable as high as 2200 km above its surface and hosts complex organic chemistry. Titan’s atmosphere and ionosphere has striking similarities to current theories of these regions around Earth 3.5 billion years ago. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Plasma and dust interaction in the magnetosphere of Saturn

    Författare :Jonas Olson; Svetlana Ratynskaia; Carmine Castaldo; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : The Cassini spacecraft orbits Saturn since 2004, carrying a multitude of instruments for studies of the plasma environment around the planet as well as the constituents of the ring system. Of particular interest to the present thesis is the large E ring, which consists mainly of water ice grains, smaller than a few micrometres, referred to as dust. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Waves and instabilities in quantum plasmas

    Författare :Shahid Ali; Padma Kant Shukla; Mattias Marklund; Jose Tito Mendonca; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum mechanical effects; dusty plasma; linear and nonlinear waves; instabilities; nonlinear wave interactions; density gradients; magnetoplasmas.; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik;

    Sammanfattning : The study of waves and instabilities in quantum plasmas is of fundamental importance for understanding collective interactions in superdense astrophysical objects, in high intense laser-plasma/solid-matter interactions, in microelectronic devices and metallic nanostructures. In dense quantum plasmas, there are new pressure laws associated with the Fermi-Dirac distribution functions and new quantum forces associated with the quantum Bohm potential and the Bohr magnetization involving electron ½ spin. 5. 5. The Klimontovich description of complex plasma systems : Low frequency electrostatic modes, spectral densities of fluctuations and collision integrals

    Författare :Panagiotis Tolias; Lars Blomberg; Carmine Castaldo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; complex plasmas; dusty plasmas; Klimontovich equations; kinetic theory; dust acoustic waves; collision integrals;

    Sammanfattning : Plasmas seeded with solid particulates of nanometer to micron sizes (complex plasma systems) are a ubiquitous feature of intergalactic, interstellar and planetary environments but also of plasma processing applications or even fusion devices. Their novel aspects compared with ideal multi-component plasmas stem from (i) the large number of elementary charges residing on the grain surface, (ii) the variability of the charge over mass ratio of the dust component, (iii) the inherent openness and dissipative nature of such systems.
