  1. 21. Rheumatoid Arthritis: Body Composition, Bone Loss, and Mortality

    Författare :Christina Book; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fat mass; bone mass; lean mass; body composition; mortality; rheumatoid arthritis; predictors;

    Sammanfattning : Early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients (disease duration ≤1 year, n=165) were recruited 1995-2001 and followed systematically clinically and with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) over 2 years and compared to age- and gender-matched controls. Baseline arm and leg lean mass were decreased in RA patients in both genders and body mass index and truncal fat distribution were increased in female RA patients. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Effects on cardiac output distribution of propranolol, verapamil and epidural blockade during continuous positive-pressure ventilation : An experimental study in the pig

    Författare :Per Elowsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : The blood perfusion of all body regions is governed by local vasoregulation, and systemic humoral and neural impulses provide additional tuning of vascular tone. Is the regulation of circulation centralised or, in other words, is the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) superior to local autoregulation of the perfusion of vital organs? Using the microsphere method and acquired data on the body composition of the pig, it was possible to interpret the absolute distribution of cardiac output (CO) and flux changes between organs and tissues. 3. 23. Bone density, bone geometry and bone development in young men - the importance of pubertal timing and fracture history

    Författare :Anna Darelid; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peak bone mass; bone mineral density; bone development; fracture; young adulthood; men;

    Sammanfattning : Background and objective: Peak bone mass, the maximal bone mass attained in young adulthood, is an important factor of the lifetime risk of developing osteoporosis. The aim of this thesis was to study the development of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone geometry around the time of peak bone mass in men, and also to investigate the association between pubertal timing, fracture history, bone turnover markers and BMD and bone geometry in young men. 4. 24. Dietary intake, nutritional status and energy metabolism in individuals with anorexia nervosa - Effects of specialized eating disorder hospital treatment

    Författare :Cecilia Pettersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anorexia nervosa; Body Composition; Skeletal Muscle Mass; Energy Intake; Energy Expenditure; Gastrointestinal Symptoms; Food Related Anxiety;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a life-threatening condition affecting around 1% of the population. The aim of this thesis was to study nutritional aspects before and after specialized eating disorder hospital treatment of AN in adolescents and young adults. Methods: Data on 43 female patients was collected and used. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Aspects of fracture prevention - The role of fracture liaison services and alendronate

    Författare :Kristian F Axelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osteoporosis; Prevention; Fracture; Fracture liaison service; Alendronate; Elderly; Prednisolone;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: In an ageing population, osteoporotic fractures become more common and cause increased morbidity, mortality and societal cost. This thesis aimed to determine the potential role of fracture liaison services (FLS) and alendronate treatment on fracture risk in those with a recent fracture, in the elderly and in those treated with oral prednisolone.
