   Sammanfattning : Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1, MEN1, is an inherited cancer syndrome whose gene was localised to chromosome 11q13 in 1988. A number of !candidate genes were characterised before the MEN1 gene was cloned in 1997. DNA sequencing of MEN1 to search for mutations in patients is used as a complement to clinical diagnosis.    Sammanfattning : A Euclidean line in the plane is discretized and the discretized line is dilated by a rectangle.  The thesis studies the dilations that cover the original line and determine the optimal ones.  Similarly, dilations of discretized Euclidean hyperplanes are studied, and the optimal coverings are described..    Sammanfattning : Patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) have an increased risk of developing ascending aortic aneurysm compared with individuals with a tricuspid aortic valve (TAV). A crucial factor involved in vascular remodeling during aneurysm development is transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and impaired signaling of this pathway can alter important extracellular matrix (ECM) protein such us fibronectin and collagen and thereby explaining the increased aneurysm susceptibility of BAV patients.
