  1. 21. Across Borders : A Histological and Physiological Study of the Subthalamic Nucleus in Reward and Movement

    Författare :Nadine Schweizer; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Dai Stephens; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; subthalamic nucleus; STN; basal ganglia; locomotion; hyperlocomotion; rearing; ventral tegmental area; VTA; dopamine; glutamate; vesicular glutamate transporter 2; Vglut2; Parkinson s disease; deep brain stimulation; subpopulation; conditional knock-out; optogenetic; co-expression; in situ hybridization; self-administration; reward behavior; mouse genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The basal ganglia are the key circuitry controlling movement and reward behavior. Both locomotion and reward-related behavior are also modified by dopaminergic input from the substantia nigra and the ventral tegmental area (VTA). LÄS MER

  2. 22. Modeling and Simulation of Microdialysis in the Deep Brain Structures

    Författare :Elin Diczfalusy; Karin Wårdell; Mats Andersson; Joakim Wren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Microdialysis is a method for monitoring of the local biochemical environment in a region of interest. The method uses a catheter, mimicking the function of a blood capillary, to sample substances from the surrounding medium through diffusion. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Stereotactic functional procedures in the treatment of essential tremor

    Författare :Ulrika Sandvik; Patric Blomstedt; Lars-Owe Koskinen; Stig Rehncrona; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Essential Tremor; Stereotactic Functional Neurosurgery; Deep Brain Stimulation; Posterior Subthalamic Area; Thalamotomy; Zona incerta; caudal Zona incerta; Quality of Life; Vim; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Essential tremor (ET) is the most common movement disorder. In cases resistant to pharmacological treatment, functional stereotactic neurosurgery can be an alternative. Lesional surgery has largely been replaced by deep brain stimulation (DBS). The current target of choice is the ventrolateral thalamus (Vim). LÄS MER

  4. 24. Quantitative methods for evaluation of tremor and neuromotor function: Application in workers exposed to neurotoxic metals and patients with essential tremor

    Författare :Gunilla Wastensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tremor; neuromotor function; neurobehavioral methods; mercury vapor; manganese; previous exposure; welding; essential tremor; deep brain stimulation;

    Sammanfattning : The overall purpose of this thesis was to investigate the usefulness of certain quantitative methods for detecting or quantifying changes in tremor or other neuromotor functions. Tremor and impairment in neuromotor function may be the early signs of adverse effects due to low-level exposure to neurotoxic metals such as mercury and manganese, and are also common features of neurological diseases. 5. 25. Stereotactic imaging in functional neurosurgery

    Författare :Hidehiro Hirabayashi; Patric Blomstedt; Takaomi Taira; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Deep brain stimulation; pallidotomy; thalamotomy; Parkinson s disease; essential tremor; CT; MRI; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The birth of stereotactic functional neurosurgery in 1947 was to a great extent dependent on the development of ventriculography. The last decades have witnessed a renaissance of functional stereotactic neurosurgery in the treatment of patients with movement disorders. LÄS MER
