1. Photodynamic Therapy utilizing Interstitial Light Delivery Combined with Spectroscopic Methods
Sammanfattning : Since cancer continues to plague humanity there is large need for development of modalities for both diagnosis and therapy. Most of the currently available methods suffer from serious disadvantages. The treatments, e.g. LÄS MER
2. Radiation therapy of upper gastrointestinal cancers with scanned proton beams : A treatment planning study
Sammanfattning : Proton beam therapy (PBT), using scanned beams, is an emerging modality used for the treatment of cancer. The clinical advantages of PBT, compared to commonly used photon beam therapy, have been demonstrated in different studies. LÄS MER
3. Pharmacological therapy of Helicobacter pylori infection
Sammanfattning : The discovery of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) opened the doors to new insight and therapy for peptic ulcer disease. Earlier eradication treatment modalities based on bismuth compounds, with or without additional antimicrobials, were not well accepted mainly because of the, at least hypothetical, risks for neurological and/or renal side effects. 4. Ultrasound, ions and combined modalities for increased local tumour cell death in radiation therapy
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, new approaches to improve tumour therapy for patients with inoperable, radiation- and chemoresistant tumours were in focus. Ultrasound and ionising radiation, especially accelerated ions, are both non-invasive agents that have high precision and deep penetration in tissues, enabling increased dose to the tumour while sparing the normal tissues.
