  1. 1. Photodynamic Therapy utilizing Interstitial Light Delivery Combined with Spectroscopic Methods

    Författare :Marcelo Soto Thompson; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; fiber optics; dosimetry; spectroscopy; tissue optics; laser-induced fluorescence; medical laser systems; Laserteknik; cancer; photodynamic therapy; interstitial; Laser technology; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Soto Thompson;

    Sammanfattning : Since cancer continues to plague humanity there is large need for development of modalities for both diagnosis and therapy. Most of the currently available methods suffer from serious disadvantages. The treatments, e.g. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On the use of light for the characterization and treatment of malignant tumours

    Författare :Claes af Klinteberg; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diffusion equation; Aminolevulinic acid; Protoporphyrin IX; Photodynamic therapy; Fluorescence spectroscopy; Fluorescence imaging; Laser-Doppler perfusion imaging; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; Multiple scattering; Tissue optics; Tissue optical properties; Fysicumarkivet A:1999:Klinteberg;

    Sammanfattning : Some aspects on the use of light for tissue characterization and treatment of malignant tumours are discussed within this thesis. The work presented aims at improving optical techniques for tissue characterization, especially to detect malignant and pre-malignant lesions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Biomedical and atmospheric applications of optical spectroscopy in scattering media

    Författare :Johannes Swartling; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Turbid media; Tissue optics; Tissue optical properties; Multiple scattering; Radiative transfer; Diffusion equation; Monte Carlo method; Time-resolved spectroscopy; Atomic and molecular physics; Integrating spheres; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Swartling;

    Sammanfattning : Spectroscopic analysis of scattering media is difficult because the effective path length of the light is non-trivial to predict when photons are scattered many times. The main area of research for such conditions is biological tissues, which scatter light because of variations of the refractive index on the cellular level. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Optical Analysis of biological media - continuous wave diffuse spectroscopy

    Författare :Jan Sørensen Dam; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spatially resolved diffuse reflectance; in vitro diffuse spectroscopy; continuous wave techniques; Nuclear physics; multivariate data analysis.; Kärnfysik; Fysik; Physics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Monte Carlo simulations; light propagation models; multiple scattering; Tissue optics; tissue optical properties; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Sörensen Dam;

    Sammanfattning : The main topic of this thesis is real-time quantification of relevant chromophores and light scattering elements in biological media. The presented methods and instrumentation are based on continuous wave (steady-state) optical measurements of (a) spatially-resolved diffuse reflectance from bulk media and (b) combined spatially-resolved and goniometric measurements of re-emitted light from thin samples. 5. 5. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring

    Författare :Haiyan Xie; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; upconversion; upconverting nanoparticles; fluorescence-guided-surgery; fluorescence diagnostics; photodynamic therapy; multi-spectral imaging; spectroscopy; biomedical optics; fluorescence; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Xie;

    Sammanfattning : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue.
