  1. 1. Porins of Borrelia burgdorferi

    Författare :Marija Pinne; Sven Bergström; Magnus Höök; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lyme disease; P13; paralog; P66; channel-forming activity; porin; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Borrelia burgdorferi is a pathogenic spirochete which cycles between its arthropod vector and vertebrate host. If transmitted to humans, B. burgdorferi causes Lyme disease, an infection which can impair different organs, such as the skin, joints, nervous system and heart. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Contribution of the outer surface proteins of Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. to the pathogenesis of Lyme disease

    Författare :Maria Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Borrelia burgdorferi; Lyme disease; Osp proteins; ospAB operon; gene regulation; pathogenicity;

    Sammanfattning : Borrelia burgdorferi s. l. is a spirochete which causes the multisystemic disorder Lyme disease. As the borreliae lack toxin production, the pathogenicity is thought to involve, at least in part, molecules from the outer surface. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Peripheral neuropathy in Lyme borreliosis

    Författare :Eva Kindstrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Lyme borreliosis; neuroborreliosis; acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans; peripheral neuropathy; cranial neuropathy;

    Sammanfattning : Tick-transmitted Lyme borreliosis (LB) is frequently associated with manifestations from the peripheral nervous system. One aim of the thesis was to describe the relationship between peripheral neuropathy and LB by prospective studies of a) LB in some defined neurological conditions with peripheral nerve engagement and b) peripheral neuropathy in the late dermatological LB manifestation acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans (ACA). 4. 4. Clinical, epidemiological and immunological aspects of Lyme borreliosis with special focus on the role of the complement system

    Författare :Anna J Henningsson; Jan Ernerudh; Pia Forsberg; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Bo-Eric Malmvall; Lars Hagberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lyme borreliosis; neuroborreliosis; clinical; epidemiology; inflammation; complement; cytokine; chemokine;

    Sammanfattning : Lyme borreliosis (LB) is the most common vector-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. The infection is caused by spirochetes belonging to the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex, and it is transmitted to humans by ticks. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Tick-borne diseases and the central nervous system : clinical and immunological aspects

    Författare :Paula Gyllemark; Anna Jonsson Henningsson; Pia Forsberg; Jan Ernerudh; Johanna Sjöwall; Marie Studahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB) is the dominating form of disseminated infection by the tick-borne bacteria Borrelia (B.) burgdorferi in Sweden as well as in Europe. LÄS MER
