  1. 1. Contribution of the outer surface proteins of Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. to the pathogenesis of Lyme disease

    Författare :Maria Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Borrelia burgdorferi; Lyme disease; Osp proteins; ospAB operon; gene regulation; pathogenicity;

    Sammanfattning : Borrelia burgdorferi s. l. is a spirochete which causes the multisystemic disorder Lyme disease. As the borreliae lack toxin production, the pathogenicity is thought to involve, at least in part, molecules from the outer surface. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Understanding Complex Diseases and Disease Causative Agents : The Machine Learning way

    Författare :Zeeshan Khaliq; Jan Komorowski; Steven Bosinger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pathogens; Influenza A viruses; Human immunodeficiency virus; Simian immunodeficiency virus; Pathogenicity; Cancer; long noncoding RNAs; Machine learning; Host specificity; Host-specific signatures; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Diseases can be caused by foreign agents – pathogens – such as viruses, bacteria and other parasites, entering the body or by an internal malfunction of the body itself. The partial understanding of diseases like cancer and the ones caused by viruses, like the influenza A viruses (IAVs) and the human immunodeficiency virus, means we still do not have an efficient cure or defence against them. 3. 3. Differentiation and Pathogenicity within the Saprolegniaceae : Studies on Physiology and Gene Expression Patterns in Saprolegnia parasitica and Aphanomyces astaci

    Författare :Gunnar Andersson; Michael J. Bidochka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Zoofysiologi; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; fysiologisk mykologi; Physiological Mycology;

    Sammanfattning : Saprolegnia parasitica and Aphanomyces astaci are parasitic water moulds belonging to the Oomycetes. Despite their importance as parasites they are very little studied at the molecular level and the work described in this thesis was aimed at increasing the molecular knowledge of these organisms by cloning and characterising genes of potential importance for reproduction and pathogenicity. 4. 4. Genus Brachyspira in birds : phenotypes, phylogeny and pathogenicity

    Författare :Desirée Jansson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Spirochaetes of genus Brachyspira colonize the large intestine of some mammals and birds, and cause intestinal disease and production losses in pigs and chickens. The precise significance of Brachyspira spp. colonization in birds, the bacterial species involved, and the epidemiology are incompletely understood. LÄS MER
