  1. 1. Energy metabolic failure within the arterial wall in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Max Levin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :atherosclerosis; hypoxia; hypoxia marker; bioluminescence imaging; ATP; glucose; lactate; energy metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a disease that affects large and medium sized arteries. The majority of deaths in a Western population can be directly attributed to complications of this disease. Although research efforts have been vast, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying atherosclerosis are not fully understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. In vivo bioluminescence imaging in preclinical trials of genetic vaccines

    Författare :Stefan Petkov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : DNA immunization is a rapidly developing vaccine platform for cancer, infectious disease, and allergies. The efficiency of DNA vaccination is largely determined by the efficiency of delivery and subsequent expression of the HIV-1 genes in the cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. In vivo bioluminescence imaging in preclinical trials of genetic vaccines

    Författare :Stefan Petkov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : DNA immunization is a rapidly developing vaccine platform for infectious diseases, cancer and allergies. The efficiency of DNA vaccination is largely determined by the efficiency of delivery and subsequent expression of genes encoding microbial and tumor antigens or allergens in the cells of vaccine recipients. 4. 4. Stroke recovery activity-dependent mechanisms

    Författare :Miriana Quattromani; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :Stroke recovery; Photothrombosis; Enriched environment; Bioluminescence imaging; Toll-like receptor 2; Microglia; Neurons; Extracellular matrix; Perineuronal nets; Aggrecan; Proteases; Parvalbumin; Resting-state functional connectivity;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is the leading cause of disability in developed countries and among the major causes of death worldwide. During a stroke, neurons deprived of their normal metabolic substrates cease to function in seconds and show signs of structural damage after only a few minutes which result in the impairment of sensory and motor function. 5. 5. Dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii to the central nervous system : with special reference to in vivo bioluminescence imaging

    Författare :Isabel Dellacasa Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Toxoplasma gondii causes an asymtomatic chronic infection in immune competent individuals that can be life-threatening in individuals that become immuno-compromised or to the developing fetus. This thesis aimed to (1) establish a novel murine model to study acute and reactivated toxoplasmosis in real-time using in vivo bioluminescence imaging (BLI), (2) investigate the migratory pathways utilized by Toxoplasma for systemic dissemination, especially to the central nervous system (CNS) and (3) address the role of resident brain glia cells in the setting of recrudescent infection in mice.
