  1. 1. Electron Donor Systems in Natural and Artificial Photosynthesis

    Författare :Ann Magnuson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; solar energy; artificial photosynthesis; Photosystem II; EPR; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is the process by which light energy is converted into chemical products, in photoautotrophic bacteria, algae and plants. The principal idea is the production of reducing agents by photo-induced oxidation of a sacrificial electron donor. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Maturation and Regulation of Cyanobacterial Hydrogenases

    Författare :Åsa Agervald; Peter Lindblad; Karin Stensjö; Ann Magnuson; Poul Erik Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biohydrogen; Cyanobacteria; Nostoc sp. PCC 7120; Nostoc punctiforme PCC 73102; Hydrogenase; Maturation; Transcriptional regulation; CyAbrB; CalA; FeSOD;

    Sammanfattning : Accelerated global warming plus an increasing need for energy is an equation not easily solved, thus new forms of sustainable energy production are urgently requested. In this context hydrogen production based on a cyanobacterial system offers an environmentally friendly alternative for energy capture and conversion. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Heterocysts of Nostoc punctiforme : From Proteomics to Energy Transfer

    Författare :Tanai Cardona; Ann Magnuson; Matthias Rögner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nostoc punctiforme; heterocyst; photosynthesis; thylakoid; isolation; proteomics; photosystem; energy transfer; hydrogen; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to provide a thorough characterization of the photosynthetic machinery from the heterocysts of Nostoc punctiforme strain ATCC 29133. In this thesis I describe the protocols I have optimized for the isolation of thylakoids from vegetative cells, the purification of heterocysts and the isolation of thylakoids from the purified heterocysts. 4. 4. The birth of the hydrogenase : Studying the mechanism of [FeFe] hydrogenase maturation

    Författare :Brigitta Németh; Gustav Berggren; Ann Magnuson; Mohamed Atta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HydF; HydA; [FeFe] hydrogenase maturation; semi-synthetic enzymes; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The [FeFe] hydrogenases are ancient metalloenzymes that catalyse the reversible interconversion between protons, electrons and molecular hydrogen. Despite the large structural variability within the [FeFe] hydrogenase family, the active site, the so called “H-cluster” is present in every representative.
