  1. 21. Genus Brachyspira in birds : phenotypes, phylogeny and pathogenicity

    Författare :Desirée Jansson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Spirochaetes of genus Brachyspira colonize the large intestine of some mammals and birds, and cause intestinal disease and production losses in pigs and chickens. The precise significance of Brachyspira spp. colonization in birds, the bacterial species involved, and the epidemiology are incompletely understood. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Viruses on the wing : evolution and dynamics of influenza A virus in the Mallard reservoir

    Författare :Michelle Wille; Jonas Waldenström; Timm Harder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Co-infections; Ecology; Epidemiology; Evolution; Host-Parasite Interactions; Immunity; Influenza A Virus; Mallard; Phylogeny; Virology; Waterfowl; Wild Birds; Wildlife Disease; Zoonotisk ekologi; Zoonotic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the evolution of avian influenza A viruses (IAV), as well as host-pathogen interactions between these viruses and their main reservoir host, the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). IAV is a genetically diverse, multi-host virus and wild birds, particularly dabbling ducks, are the natural reservoir. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Pathobiology of avian influenza in wild bird species

    Författare :Caroline Bröjer; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Avian influenza viruses, especially highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV), affect a wide range of species, including humans and have thus become a major concern for veterinary medicine and public health. A HPAIV-H5N1 belonging to clade 2.2, originally from South East Asia, spread across Eurasia and reached Sweden in 2006. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Tamiflu in the Water : Resistance Dynamics of Influenza A Virus in Mallards Exposed to Oseltamivir

    Författare :Anna Gillman; Josef D Järhult; Björn Olsen; Shaman Muradrasoli; Elena Govorkova; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Influenza A virus; avian influenza; oseltamivir; neuraminidase inhibitors; resistance; environmental; Mallard; waterfowl; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The natural reservoir of influenza A virus (IAV) is wild waterfowl, and all human IAVs have their genetic origins from avian viruses. Neuraminidase inhibitors (NAIs) are currently the best drugs for treatment of human influenza; therefore, the orally available NAI oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) has been stockpiled worldwide as part of pandemic preparedness planning. 5. 25. Large-scale releases of native species: the mallard as a predictive model system

    Författare :Pär Söderquist; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Human alteration of natural systems, and its consequences are of great concern and the impact on global ecosystems is one of the biggest threats that biodiversity stands before. Translocations of invasive species, as well as intraspecific contingents with non-native genotypes, whether they are deliberate or unintentional, are one such alteration and its consequences are continuously being assessed.
