  1. 1. Filamentous Fungi as a Sustainable Ingredient for Fish Feed

    Författare :Sajjad Karimi; José Teixeira; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; compound feed; edible filamentous fungi; essential amino acids; low-value substrates; polyunsaturated fatty acids; protein sources; submerged cultivation; thin stillage; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Sammanfattning : Limited feed ingredients hinder aquaculture’s rapid growth. Current unsustainable fish feeding practices use ingredients like fishmeal and soybean meal, which could be directly consumed for as human food. This demands novel alternatives for fish nutrition. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Harnessing the potential of filamentous fungi for sustainable and healthy food system

    Författare :Neda Rousta; Mohammad J Taherzadeh; Duu-Jong Lee; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sustainable food system; mycoprotein; bioactive compounds; L-carnitine; submerged fermentation; healthy food; edible filamentous fungi; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Sammanfattning : Food systems have the potential to improve human health while contributing to environmental sustainability; however, they are currently endangering both. The current food system, which is often based on animal farming, is responsible for global greenhouse gas emissions, and increases the incidence of, and mortality from, non-communicable diseases. 3. 3. Rhodothermus marinus: a cell factory : Exploring products and cultivation technology

    Författare :Emanuel Ron; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rhodothermus marinus; Extremophiles; Carotenoids; Exopolysaccharides;

    Sammanfattning : The unsustainable human impact on ecology and ensuing climate change necessitates the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The largest contributing industrial sector is the chemical industry, due to its petrochemical dependency. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fungal production and solid state chemistry of eritadenine : an integrated approach to development of an active pharmaceutical ingredient

    Författare :Josefine Enman; Allan Myerson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis demonstrates an integrated approach to the development of a potential active pharmaceutical ingredient, eritadenine, a cholesterol reducing compound originating from the shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes). The main areas covered in the thesis are a method for quantification of eritadenine, production of eritadenine by submerged cultivation of fungal mycelia and investigation of the influence of process parameters on mycelial growth and production, and finally solid state characterizations of eritadenine. 5. 5. Concepts for improving ethanol productivity from lignocellulosic materials : encapsulated yeast and membrane bioreactors

    Författare :Päivi Ylitervo; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Encapsulated yeast; Biofuel; S. cerevisiae; Membrane bioreactors; Thermotolerance; Furfural; Acetic acid; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery;

    Sammanfattning : Lignocellulosic biomass is a potential feedstock for production of sugars, which can be fermented into ethanol. The work presented in this thesis proposes some solutions to overcome problems with suboptimal process performance due to elevated cultivation temperatures and inhibitors present during ethanol production from lignocellulosic materials.
