  1. 1. Motion in Language and Experience : Actual and Non-actual motion in Swedish, French and Thai

    Detta är en avhandling från The Faculties of Humanities and Theology

    Författare :Johan Blomberg; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2014]
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; motion situations; non-actual motion; Swedish; elicitation; cognitive linguistics; phenomenology; Thai; French; subjective motion; fictive motion; semantic typology; motion; spatial semantics; motion events;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with motion in language and non-linguistic experience, distinguishing between actual motion (AM) and non-actual motion (NAM). AM is the experience of continuous change in an object’s position, expressed in sentences such as 'The man runs through the forest' and 'The woman is walking'. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Annular Motion : Assessment of Cardiac Function using Echocardiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Detta är en avhandling från Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Författare :Lena Lindström; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2000]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concentrates on the assessment of cardiac function, both systolic and diastolic using variables originating from the longitudinal motion of the heart using both established and novel non-invasive imaging techniques. We developed a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that creates an M-mode MRI image, analogous to the one used in echocardiography and enables quantitative assessment of cardiac motion. 3. 3. Social causality in motion Visual bias and categorization of social interactions during the observation of chasing in infancy

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Martyna A. Galazka; Uppsala universitet.; [2017]
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; social causality; motion; animacy perception; chasing goal-directed motion; heat-seeking; EEG; P400; Nc; spatial proximity; non-contact causality; functional specialization; specialized perception; evolution; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Since the seminal work of Fritz Heider and Marienne Simmel (1944) the study of animacy perception, or the perception and attribution of life from the motion of simple geometrical shapes has intrigued researchers. The intrigue for psychologists and vision scientists then and today centered on the stark disconnect between the simplicity of the visual input and the universal richness of the resulting percept. 4. 4. Thoughts in Motion The Role of Long-Term L1 and Short-Term L2 Experience when Talking and Thinking of Caused Motion

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Centre for Research on Bilingualism Department of Swedish and Multilingualism, Stockholm University

    Författare :Guillermo Montero-Melis; Stockholms universitet.; [2017]
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Linguistic relativity; language and thought; conceptualization; thinking for speaking; semantic typology; lexicalization patterns; events; caused motion; bilingualism; second language acquisition; transfer; adaptation; priming; Spanish; Swedish; tvåspråkighet; Bilingualism;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about whether language affects thinking. It deals with the linguistic relativity hypothesis, which proposes that the language we speak influences the way we think. This hypothesis is investigated in the domain of caused motion (e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Lip-motion and speech biometrics in person recognition

    Detta är en avhandling från Göteborg : Department of Signals and Systems, Chalmers University of Technology

    Författare :Maycel Isaac Faraj; Högskolan i Halmstad.; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2006]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TECHNOLOGY Information technology Image analysis; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Informationsteknik Bildanalys; Audio-visual recognition; biometrics; Biometric recognition; Speaker verification; Speaker authentication; Person identification; Lip movements; Motion; Structure tensor; Orientation; Optical flow; Hidden Markov Model; Gaussian Markov Model; Lip-motion;

    Sammanfattning : Biometric identification techniques are frequently used to improve security, e.g. in financial transactions, computer networks and secure critical locations. The purpose of biometric authentication systems is to verify an individual by her biological characteristics including those generating characterisitic behaviour. LÄS MER
