    Sammanfattning : AbstractThis work reports the development of an asymmetric version of the Nicholas reaction using monodentate phosphoramidites as ligands, which enables asymmetric synthesis from racemic starting material. In addition, we describe the application of metal carbonyl mediated reactions, such as the Pauson-Khand reaction (PKR) and reactions involving cationic iron carbonyl dienyl complexes, for the synthesis of potential galectin inhibitors, implicated in human inflammatory responses and various pathologies.     Sammanfattning : Several optically active organometallic Phe-AAn-Phe peptidomimetics and macrocyclic Phe-(Phe)n peptides have been synthesized by either intra- or intermolecular peptide bond formation of the corresponding bis(amino acid) derivatives. The key bis(amino acid) derivatives were available from an improved multi-step synthetic route, utilising Horner-Wadswort-Emmons olefination of organometallic aldehydes with phosphonylglycine reagents, enantioselective hydrogenation of didehydro amino acids and classical solution and/or solid phase peptide synthesis methodology.     Sammanfattning : Five-membered rings are readily prepared by 5-exo-trig radical cyclization. This thesis is concerned with novel methodology for pyrrolidine synthesis. We have synthesised selenium containing radical precursors from aziridines and α-phenylseleno ketones, and cyclized them to 2,4- and 3,4-disubstituted pyrrolidines. LÄS MER
