  1. 1. Development of a Cancer Vaccine Targeting Tumor Blood Vessels

    Författare :Elisabeth J. M Huijbers; Anna-Karin Olsson; Arjan W. Griffioen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vaccine; Therapeutic; Cancer; Tumor; Angiogenesis; Immunization; Vascular; Extracellular matrix; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap; Biomedical Laboratory Science; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : A treatment strategy for cancer is the suppression of tumor growth by directing an immune response to the tumor vessels, which will destroy the tissue.In this thesis we describe the development of a vaccine that targets antigens expressed around angiogenic vasculature in most solid tumors. 2. 2. Therapeutic Cancer Vaccines Targeting Molecules Associated with Tumor Angiogenesis

    Författare :Julia Femel; Anna-Karin Olsson; Grietje (Ingrid) Molema; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tumor; therapeutic; cancer vaccine; angiogenesis; vasculature; fibronectin; galectin-1; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap; Biomedical Laboratory Science; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Induction of an endogenous antibody response by therapeutic vaccination could provide an alternative to cost-intensive monoclonal antibody-based treatments for cancer. Since the target of a cancer vaccine will most likely be a self-antigen, self-tolerance of the immune system must be circumvented. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Vaccine Therapy of Colorectal Cancer Patients with Tumor Associated Antigens

    Författare :Gustav Ullenhag; Håkan Mellstedt; Carl Magnusson; Bengt Glimelius; Torgny Stigbrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Oncology; Colorectal cancer; GM-CSF; vaccination; CEA; ALVAC-KSA; IgG subclass; epitopes; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, two different vaccines were evaluated as adjuvant therapy for patients with colorectal cancer. The ability of the two candidate vaccines to generate antigen-specific cellular and humoral responses, respectively, was studied. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tumor gene therapy using Semliki forest virus replicons

    Författare :Paula Colmenero; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Semliki Forest Virus; Alphavirus; Recombinant Vaccine; Tumor Antigen; P815; IL-12;

    Sammanfattning : A major challenge in cancer research is to design effective vaccines that can break immunological tolerance to tumor antigens. Over the past ten years several immunotherapeutic strategies aimed at modulating the patient's immune response to fight cancer have been tested in clinical trials. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies on persistent polyomavirus infection in relation to tumor development and options for vaccine and gene therapy

    Författare :Shirin Heidari; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Polyomavirus is a small DNA virus capable of inducing tumors in mice with a defective or an immature immune system. The importance of T-cells in prevention of polyoma-induced tumor development has previously been shown. In this thesis, we wished to elucidate the role of humoral immunity with regard to polyomavirus persistence and tumor development. LÄS MER
