  1. 1. Language and Vision. Using visual information in real-world language situations

    Författare :Richard Andersson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; language; commmunication; visual context; visual world; pragmatics; ecological validity;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is about the role of visual context information in communication. All accounts of language processing and communication agree that visual context is beneficial for understanding. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bayesian Models for Multilingual Word Alignment

    Författare :Robert Östling; Mats Wirén; Ola Knutsson; Jörg Tiedemann; Sharon Goldwater; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; word alignment; parallel text; Bayesian models; MCMC; linguistic typology; sign language; annotation transfer; transfer learning; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I explore Bayesian models for word alignment, how they can be improved through joint annotation transfer, and how they can be extended to parallel texts in more than two languages. In addition to these general methodological developments, I apply the algorithms to problems from sign language research and linguistic typology. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Knowledge predication : A semantic typology

    Författare :Anna Sjöberg; Bernhard Wälchli; Maria Koptjevskaja-Tamm; Volker Gast; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; semantic typology; constructional typology; semantic maps; knowledge; epistemology; parallel texts; language sampling; token-based typology; cognitive semantics; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is an investigation of the cross-linguistic expression of knowledge predication (‘He knows that it’s raining’, ‘she knows the boy’ etc.) Knowledge predication is investigated in parallel texts—specifically New Testament translations—in a genealogically and areally stratified variety sample of 83 languages. 4. 4. The Sampling Pattern Cube : A Framework for Representation and Evaluation of Plenoptic Capturing Systems

    Författare :Mitra Damghanian; Mårten Sjöström; Roger Olsson; Göran Manneberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Digital cameras have already entered our everyday life. Rapid technological advances have made it easier and cheaper to develop new cameras with unconventional structures. The plenoptic camera is one of the new devices which can capture the light information which is then able to be processed for applications such as focus adjustments. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Predictive Modeling of Turn-Taking in Spoken Dialogue : Computational Approaches for the Analysis of Turn-Taking in Humans and Spoken Dialogue Systems

    Författare :Erik Ekstedt; Gabriel Skantze; Roger Moore; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; turn-taking; spoken dialog system; human computer interaction; Turtagning; talad dialog; människa-data interaktion; Datalogi; Computer Science; Människa-datorinteraktion; Human-computer Interaction; Speech and Music Communication; Tal- och musikkommunikation;

    Sammanfattning : Turn-taking in spoken dialogue represents a complex cooperative process wherein participants use verbal and non-verbal cues to coordinate who speaks and who listens, to anticipate speaker transitions, and to produce backchannels (e.g., “mhm”, “uh-huh”) at the right places.
