1. Endocrine disruption in fish : Effects of 17α-ethinylestradiol exposure on non-reproductive behavior, fertility and brain and testis transcriptome
Sammanfattning : Aquatic environments are the end recipient for most anthropogenic chemical pollutants. One common chemical pollutant found in the aquatic environment is 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), a synthetic estrogen used in contraceptive pills. LÄS MER
2. Endocrine Disruption in Amphibians : Developmental Effects of Ethynylestradiol and Clotrimazole on the Reproductive System
Sammanfattning : Amphibian populations are declining world-wide and one of the suggested reasons is environmental pollutants. Studies of long-term effects on the reproductive system in frogs following larval exposure to environmental pollutants are scarce. It is therefore important to develop methods to study developmental reproductive toxicity in amphibians. LÄS MER
3. The juvenile three-spined stickleback : model organism for the study of estrogenic and androgenic endocrine disruption in laboratory and field
Sammanfattning : Industrial and domestic sewage effluents have been found to cause reproductive disorders in wild fish, often as a result of the interference of compounds in the effluents with the endocrine system. This thesis describes laboratory-based exposure experiments and a field survey that were conducted with juveniles of the three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus. LÄS MER
4. Endocrine modulators and sexual differentiation in Japanese quail : With emphasis on the neuroendocrine system
Sammanfattning : Chemical disruption of the endocrine system in various animal species is currently attracting considerable interest, but avian models are not yet widely used in studying endocrine disturbances. This thesis shows the occurrence of alterations in sexual behavior and reproductive organs in adult Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) following embryonic exposure to estrogen-like chemicals. LÄS MER
5. Strategies for Monitoring of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals in Aquatic Environment
Sammanfattning : The protein biomarker vitellogenin in fish is discussed alongside alterative strategies for monitoring of endocrine disrupting chemicals. The first objective was to find a cheap, robust and generic method for the quantification of vitellogenin. LÄS MER
