  1. 1. Genetic Sex Differences in Early Human Neuronal Development : An Investigation in Embryo Tissue and Embryonic Stem Cells

    Författare :Philipp Pottmeier; Elena Jazin; Armin Raznahan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex chromosome; gametolog; x y homolog; male; female; sex differences; sex bias; embryonic stem cells; neurodevelopment; neuronal differentiation; neural stem cells; genetics; neurodevelopmental disorders; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Sex differences in the human body affect many different organs and tissues, some of them have an effect on the human brain and its development. In the developing nervous system, sex differences can bias the number or functionality of neurons, glial cells or synapses. As a result, neural networks might develop with a sex-specific bias. 2. 2. Roles of ERα and ERβ in Normal and Disrupted Sex Differentiation in Japanese Quail

    Författare :Anna Mattsson; Björn Brunström; Krister Halldin; Lena Sahlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; sex differentiation; estrogen receptor; sexual behavior; endocrine disruption; Japanese quail; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Exposure to xenoestrogens during development has been shown to impair sexual differentiation in various species. The major aim of this thesis was to elucidate the respective roles of the two estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ in normal and disrupted differentiation of sex organs and copulatory behavior in the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica). 3. 3. Den sociala differentieringens retorik och gestaltning : Kritiska perspektiv på funktionalistisk förorts- och bostadsplanering i Stockholm från 1900-talets mitt

    Författare :Christian Björk; Hans Hayden; Helena Kåberg; Martin Rörby; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I analys suburb- and housing planning and interior decoration carried out primarily in Stockholm between the 1930s and the 1950s. Functionalism, the overall concept of the period, has perhaps been interpreted in terms of ideological concepts, interpreted as "democratic" and as a progressive dividing line between the past and the future. 4. 4. Endocrine Disruption in Amphibians : Developmental Effects of Ethynylestradiol and Clotrimazole on the Reproductive System

    Författare :Irina Gyllenhammar; Cecilia Berg; Ingvar Brandt; Lena Holm; Joakim Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Test system; Xenopus tropicalis; Rana temporaria; sex ratio; sex differentiation; fertility; aromatase; ovary; testis; oviduct; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Amphibian populations are declining world-wide and one of the suggested reasons is environmental pollutants. Studies of long-term effects on the reproductive system in frogs following larval exposure to environmental pollutants are scarce. It is therefore important to develop methods to study developmental reproductive toxicity in amphibians. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Rural Income Diversification, Employment, and Differentiation in Kenya and Implications for Rural Change

    Författare :Maria Fibaek; Ekonomisk utveckling i det globala Syd; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Rural Development; Income Diversification; Differentiation; Agrarian Political Economy; Kenya;

    Sammanfattning : To contribute to contemporary rural development debates, the present thesis conducts a contextual analysis of rural development using Kenya as a case study from the colonial era to today. To perform the analysis, two critical trends in rural Africa are focused on: socioeconomic differentiation and rural income diversification, with a particular focus on large-scale farm employment.
