6. Chondrocyte and extracellular matrix alterations in equine cartilage during development and inflammation
Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease involving inflammation and subsequent degeneration of joint tissues. The disease progresses with time-dependent stages of degeneration, loss and remodelling of the extracellular matrix (ECM) of articular cartilage, and phenotypical changes in the chondrocytes. LÄS MER
7. Transient electromagnetic pulse propagation in temporally dispersive materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the problem of transient electromagnetic pulse propagation in temporally dispersive media. The analysis is performed using time-domain techniques. In particular, the dispersive wave splitting which decouples the Maxwell equations both in vacuum and inside the medium is utilized. LÄS MER
8. High Order Symmetric Finite Difference Schemes for the Acoustic Wave Equation
Sammanfattning : When someone speaks, or when a piano is played, sound waves are spread through the room. Physically the propagation of sound is governed by the acoustic wave equation. This thesis deals with the problem of finding solutions to this equation by numerical methods. LÄS MER
9. Modeling and Characterization of nonlinear Materials for Protection of Optical Sensors
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns nonlinear materials and experimental techniques for optical power limiting applications. Theoretical models to analyze and simulate related measurements were studied. Two different numerical modeling tools for propagation of optical radiation through optically nonlinear media were developed. LÄS MER
10. Effect of cycline-dependent kinase and matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors on hematopoietic and leukemic cells
Sammanfattning : Rapid advances in molecular and cellular biology have improved the understanding of the mechanisms involved in leukemia development. Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have been suggested as potential therapeutic targets and a number of pharmacologic inhibitors of CDKs and MMPs have been developed.
