  1. 16. Methodological Aspects of Clinical fMRI - Reliability Assessment and Development of Data Analysis Strategies

    Författare :Peter Mannfolk; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood oxygenation level dependent fMRI Field map General linear model Locally linear embedding Resting-state;

    Sammanfattning : Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive technique used for the investigation of brain function, which has found numerous applications within basic neuroscience. The introduction of fMRI as a clinical tool for presurgical mapping of pertinent cortical regions in patients with tumour or epilepsy has facilitated neurosurgical planning, and most likely reduced the risk of severe postoperative deficits. 2. 17. Analysis and Optimization of Communication Overheads in Multi-core Architectures

    Författare :Madhavan Manivannan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; task parallelism; multi-core; cache coherence; runtime systems; sharing patterns; Amdahl’s Law;

    Sammanfattning : The transition to multi-core architectures can be attributed mainly to fundamental limitations in clockfrequency scaling coupled with a slow growth in uniprocessor performance effected by the challengesin exploiting instruction-level parallelism. Consequently, programmers can no longer realize significant performance gains without investing effort into parallelizing applications. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Scripted knowledge packages : implicit and explicit constraints on comprehension and memory

    Författare :Stefan Samuelsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was (a) to specify how the use of predictive inferences in comprehension is constrained by scripted knowledge packages, (b) to examine recall for scripted representations, and (c) to specify mechanisms underlying the interplay between script-based constraints on predictive inferences and memory for these generic knowledge representations. In fourteen experiments, lipreading represented a method to detect implicit and explicit constraints on predictive inferences imposed by typicality, abstraction, and temporal order. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Parallelism in Event-Based Computations with Applications in Biology

    Författare :Pavol Bauer; Stefan Engblom; Markos A. Katsoulakis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Event-based computations; Parallel algorithms; Discrete-event simulation; Monte-Carlo methods; Systems biology.; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Event-based models find frequent usage in fields such as computational physics and biology as they may contain both continuous and discrete state variables and may incorporate both deterministic and stochastic state transitions. If the state transitions are stochastic, computer-generated random numbers are used to obtain the model solution. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Towards Scalable Performance Analysis of MPI Parallel Applications

    Författare :Xavier Aguilar; Erwin Laure; David Black-Schaffer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; parallel computing; performance monitoring; performance tools; event flow graphs; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning :   A considerably fraction of science discovery is nowadays relying on computer simulations. High Performance Computing  (HPC) provides scientists with the means to simulate processes ranging from climate modeling to protein folding. LÄS MER
