6. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. LÄS MER
7. Composition-Structure Correlations of Bioactive Glasses Explored by Multinuclear Solid-state NMR Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis presents a study of structure-composition correlations of bioactive glasses (BGs) by employing solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.Silicate-based Na2O−CaO−SiO2−P2O5 BGs are utilized clinically and are extensively investigated for bone regeneration purposes. 8. Magnetism of manganites, semiconductors and spin glasses
Sammanfattning : Magnetic and electrical properties of selected compounds containing manganese (Mn) are investigated by SQUID magnetometry and transport measurements.(Ga,Mn)As is a magnetic semiconductor obtained from GaAs by substituting Ga3+ for Mn2+. Mn acts in the alloy as a magnetic impurity, as well as a hole dopant. LÄS MER
9. The Dynamical Spin Vector Evolution of the Asteroids
Sammanfattning : The dynamical evolution of the spin axis direction due to gravitational and thermal factors is examined. It is found that the spin axis variations generally are regular and relatively small for the bodies in the asteroid main belt. There are also reasons to believe that this is the case for minor objects beyond the main belt. LÄS MER
10. Modelling of spin and other quantum effects in plasmas
Sammanfattning : The development of quantum mechanics during the 20th century gave rise to a completely new way of describing physics. The interpretation of quantum theory is inherently difficult: for example, many-body systems are described by a so called density matrix which has no straightforward analogue in classical theory.
