1. Numerical simulation of kinetic effects in ionospheric plasma
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we study numerically the one-dimensional Vlasov equation for a plasma consisting of electrons and infinitely heavy ions. This partial differential equation describes the evolution of the distribution function of particles in the two-dimensional phase space (x,v). LÄS MER
2. Numerical Vlasov–Maxwell Modelling of Space Plasma
Sammanfattning : The Vlasov equation describes the evolution of the distribution function of particles in phase space (x,v), where the particles interact with long-range forces, but where shortrange "collisional" forces are neglected. A space plasma consists of low-mass electrically charged particles, and therefore the most important long-range forces acting in the plasma are the Lorentz forces created by electromagnetic fields. 3. Quantum Kinetic Theory for Plasmas : spin, exchange, and particle dispersive effects
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about developing and studying quantum mechanical models of plasmas. Quantum effects can be important at high densities, at low temperatures, and in strong electromagnetic fields, in various laboratory and astrophysical systems. LÄS MER
4. Modeling the Lunar plasma wake
Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses the solar wind interaction with the Moon and the formation of the lunar plasma wake from a kinetic perspective. The Moon is essentially a non-conducting body which has a tenuous atmosphere and no global magnetic fields. The solar wind plasma impacts directly the lunar day-side and is absorbed by the lunar surface. LÄS MER
5. Symptoms, prehospital delay and long-term survival in men vs. women with myocardial infarction : a combined register and qualitative study
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to study symptoms, prehospital delay and time trends in long-term survival in men and women with myocardial infarction (MI). The study was based on quantitative and qualitative data collections. LÄS MER
