  1. 1. The subjective visual horizontal in the diagnosis of vestibular disorders : physiological and clinical considerations

    Författare :Arne Tribukait; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Vestibular system; vestibular tests; vestibular neuritis; Meniere sdisease; gentamicin treatment; vestibular compensation; stapedotomy; spatial orientation; gravity otoliths; utricle; saccule; semicircular canals; subjective visual horizontal; roll;

    Sammanfattning : In the examination of patients with vestibular disturbances the diagnostic techniques are almost entirely focused on the semicircular canals. However, a considerable number of the patients have symptoms which are suggestive of an affection of the otolith organs, e.g. false sensations of tilt or linear motion and even sudden falls. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Contribution of Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP Test) to the Evaluation of Patients with Idiopathic Sudden Hearing Loss

    Författare :Georgios Stamatiou; Greece Athens National & Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: To evaluate Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP) testing results in patients with unilateral Idiopathic Sudden Hearing Loss (ISHL) and to correlate them with the findings of caloric testing, the clinical appearance of vertigo, the influence of age, the grade and type of initial hearing loss and finally, the early recovery of subjects.Materials andMethods: One hundred and four (104) patients with unilateral ISHL and 35 healthy controls were subjected to a standard protocol of neurotological evaluation. 3. 3. Persistent geotropic nystagmus : a different kind of cupula pathology

    Författare :Tatjana Tomanovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In patients with positional vertigo a persistent positional direction-changing nystagmus (PDCN) of apogeotropic direction (a-PDCN) in the supine yaw plane has been described earlier 1-5. It has been suggested that the cupula in the lateral semicircular canal has a higher specific weight than the surrounding endolymph making the cupula sensitive to gravity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ocular counter-rolling during head tilt

    Författare :Tony Pansell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Eye movements; Ocular torsion; VOR; head tilt; Vision.;

    Sammanfattning : When tilting the head towards the shoulder there are numerous mechanisms influencing on the generation and maintenance of ocular counter-roll. Each of these mechanisms has its own temporal and spatial characteristics which influences on the counter-rolled eye position. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic studies of neurodevelopmental disorders

    Författare :Josephine Wincent; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) constitute a heterogeneous group of disorders that adversely impacts a child’s behavioural and learning processes. Developmental delay (DD) and mental retardation are included among the NDDs and are frequently associated with a wide range of accompanying disabilities such as multiple congenital anomalies and dysmorphic features.
