1. Testosterone, 17β-estradiol and pubertal growth
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: It is well established that the interaction of sex steroids with the growth hormone (GH)/ insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) axis is of major importance in children for normal pubertal growth. However, detailed understanding is still lacking. LÄS MER
2. Significance of polymorphisms in human xenobiotic metabolising enzymes
Sammanfattning : Cigarette smoke is the primary cause of lung cancer but urban air pollution and certain occupational exposures have also been found to elevate the incidence of lung cancer. These exposures contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), which can be metabolically activated to highly reactive compounds capable of binding to DNA and initiating the carcinogenic process unless they are eliminated. 3. Aspects of proteinase-activated receptor-2: A sensor of enzymatic activity at the cell surface
Sammanfattning : Information about extracellular proteolytic activity is transduced to the cell by a transmembrane G-protein coupled receptor subfamily. These receptors are activated by proteolytic cleavage in the extracellular amino-terminal domain and are thus termed proteinase-activated receptors (PARs). LÄS MER
4. Everyday functioning in six year-old children born preterm : From a child perspective towards the child's perspective
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the thesis was to explore everyday functioning in six year-old children born preterm, from the children’s perspectives and from their parents’ perspectives. The relation between everyday functioning and neonatal risk factors, behavioural characteristics was studied with descriptive and correlational statistics, ANOVA and multiple linear regression (I). 5. On enchytraeids and naidids: Life history traits and responses to environmental stress
Sammanfattning : My thesis shows that enchytraeids and naidids are sensitive to various forms of environmental stress, which in combination with the wide distribution of both families make them highly suitable for use in risk assessment and soil monitoring. Enchytraeids were subject to chemical stress under both laboratory and field conditions. LÄS MER
