  1. 6. Physiological responses of marine and brackish Fucus vesiculosus L. with respect to salinity

    Författare :Maria Gylle; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acclimation; Bothnian Sea; compatible solutes; desiccation; fluorescence; F. vesiculosus; F. radicans; immunoblot; mannitol; photosynthesis; Rubisco; salinity; Algfysiologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The intertidal brown alga Fucus vesiculosus L. is mainly a marine species (34 practical salinity units, psu), but the alga also grows in the sublittoral of the brackish Bothnian Sea (part of the Baltic Sea; 5 psu). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Non-indigenous zooplankton : the role of predatory cladocerans and of copepods in trophic dynamics

    Författare :Marc Andersen Borg; Fredrik Wulff; Markku Viitasalo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acartia tonsa; Bythotrephes longimanus; Cercopagis pengoi; egg production; fitness; food web changes; ingestion rates; invasive species; metabolic balance; mortality; non-indigenous zooplankton; predation impact; salinity tolerance; stable isotopes; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Human-mediated introductions of non-indigenous species now threaten to homogenize the biota of the Globe, causing huge economic and ecological damage. This thesis studies the ecological role of 3 invasive planktonic crustaceans, the omnivorous copepod Acartia tonsa (western Atlantic and Indo-Pacific) and the predatory cladocerans, Cercopagis pengoi (Ponto-Caspian) and Bythotrephes longimanus (Eurasian). 3. 8. DISCO - Drivers and Impacts of Coastal Ocean Acidification

    Författare :Laurie Charrieau; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coastal ocean acidification; Foraminifera; Environmental changes; pH; Salinity;

    Sammanfattning : Ocean acidification, mainly attributed to the increasing anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere, is characterised by a lowering pH together with a shift in the sea water carbonate chemistry toward lower concentration of carbonate ions. On the coasts, where the environmental variability is high due to natural and human impacts, ocean acidification mainly affects the frequency, magnitude, and duration of lower pH and lower calcium carbonate saturation events. 4. 9. Mutagenesis in wheat: An approach to make saline green!

    Författare :Johanna Lethin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Wheat; Mutagenesis; Salinity;

    Sammanfattning : The raising salinity in the soils around the world have been widely studied during the last decades due to the massive loss in agricultural land. Today, nearly 8% of the world’s arable land can no longer be used for crop cultivation due to salt contaminations, and more than half of the countries in the world are affected. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Phenotypic plasticity and local adaptation in tadpoles

    Författare :Björn Lardner; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; salinity tolerance; trade-off; life-history; tail depth; inducible defence; antipredator strategies; tadpoles; anurans; amphibians; Phenotypic plasticity; local adaptation; competitive ability; allozymes.; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Amphibian larvae are plastic in many traits. Can plasticity buffer population divergence, so that local adaptation is more common in non-plastic traits? I argue that this may be the case for adaptive plastic responses. LÄS MER
