  1. 1. DISCO - Drivers and Impacts of Coastal Ocean Acidification

    Författare :Laurie Charrieau; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coastal ocean acidification; Foraminifera; Environmental changes; pH; Salinity;

    Sammanfattning : Ocean acidification, mainly attributed to the increasing anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere, is characterised by a lowering pH together with a shift in the sea water carbonate chemistry toward lower concentration of carbonate ions. On the coasts, where the environmental variability is high due to natural and human impacts, ocean acidification mainly affects the frequency, magnitude, and duration of lower pH and lower calcium carbonate saturation events. 2. 2. Bacterioplankton in the light of seasonality and environmental drivers

    Författare :Carina Bunse; Jarone Pinhassi; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine bacteria; marine microbiology; seasonal succession; ocean acidification; proteorhodopsin; photoheterotrophy; microbial time series; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterioplankton are keystone organisms in marine ecosystems. They are important for element cycles, by transforming dissolved organic carbon and other nutrients. Bacterioplankton community composition and productivity rates change in surface waters over spatial and temporal scales. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Habitat-Forming Seaweeds in a Changing Climate

    Författare :Alexandra Kinnby; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ocean acidification; Warming; Freshening; Temperature; Salinity; pH; pCO2; Fucus vesiculosus; Phlorotannins; Grazing; Tissue resilience; Macroalgae;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change is an umbrella term encompassing some of the largest and most potent selective pressures currently acting on ecosystems. It can have diverse effects on marine systems; the most powerful of which are changes to salinity through altered patterns of precipitation and evaporation, temperature through increased global temperature, and pH through the dissolution of CO2 into seawater where it ultimately reacts with water to form carbonate (CO32-) and hydrogen ions (2H+). Sammanfattning : Climate Change is caused by the accelerated increase of anthropogenic greenhousegas emissions to the atmosphere and affects all ecosystems on our planet. A resultof higher CO2 uptake by the oceans as well as an increase of heat trapped in theatmosphere leads to, for example acidification, stratification, sea-level rise, oxygenloss, and temperature increase of the earth’s waterbodies. 5. 5. Ecological aspects of marine Vibrio bacteria - Exploring relationships to other organisms and a changing environment

    Författare :Maria. E. Asplund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Heterotrophic bacteria of the genus Vibrio are indigenous in the marine environment although environmental cues regulate their growth and distribution. The attention brought to this genus is due to its many species/strains that are pathogenic to humans and other organisms. LÄS MER
