6. Consideration of the non-linear behaviour of joints for efficient design of complex timber structures
Sammanfattning : The re-emergence of timber as a construction material, facilitated by the development of modern engineered wood products, has enabled the creation of modern and complex timber structures. A detailed description of the load-displacement curves of timber joints is required. LÄS MER
7. Multidirectional Mobilities - Advanced Measurement Techniques and Applications
Sammanfattning : Today high noise-and-vibration comfort has become a quality sign of products in sectors such as the automotive industry, aircraft, components, households and manufacturing. Consequently, already in the design phase of products, tools are required to predict the final vibration and noise levels. LÄS MER
8. Beam-to-Beam Contact and Its Application to Micromechanical Simulation of Fiber Networks
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis covers the topic of modeling the three-dimensional fiber net- works with the finite element method. It contains the part addressing the numerical aspects of the modeling, namely, the contact formulation and application of the developed methods to the fundamental questions such as the effect of randomness in fiber properties and effect of fines and hygroexpansion. 9. Physical Modeling of Brain and Head Kinematics
Sammanfattning : The development of head injury criteria and countermeasures for head protection requires understanding of how different factors affect brain and head kinematics. In this thesis, 2D physical models of the human head were developed and used to evaluate how various factors affect brain kinematics during angular head kinematics. LÄS MER
10. On the rotational deformity of the shoulder following an obstetric brachial plexus palsy
Sammanfattning : An internal rotation deformity of the shoulder occurs very frequently in brachial plexus birth palsy. Even though surprisingly accurate descriptions of the deformity were already published at the beginning of the 1900s, the nature of the deformity is not well understood and there is no consensus regarding surgical treatment.
