21. Genetic association studies in allergic rhinitis
Sammanfattning : Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a global health problem that causes major disability worldwide. Nasal obstruction, secretion and itching are characterizing features of the disease. The development and severity of AR are determined by a complex interaction between environmental and genetic factors and the heritability for AR has been estimated to be high. LÄS MER
22. Systems Biology Based Approaches to Identify Biomarkers in Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis
Sammanfattning : Glucocorticoids (GC) are the most effective anti-inflammatory treatment for seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR). However, a few patients with SAR show poor response to GC treatment. Hence, there is a clinical need to find biomarkers to predict and monitor treatment response. LÄS MER
23. Symptoms and aspects on eosinophil activity in allergic rhinitis
Sammanfattning : Allergic rhinitis is a major atopic disease. Even if much is known about the pathophysiology of this condition, and despite the fact that good treatments are available, there is a need for new treatment options, particularly for such aiming at new targets and reduced side effects. 24. Allergic rhinitis and intralymphatic vaccination : immune response and tolerance
Sammanfattning : The overall goal of this thesis was to study novel immunological mechanisms for the development of pollen-induced allergic rhinitis (AR) and to evaluate the clinical response in combination with immunological changes in AR patients treated with intralymphatic immunotherapy (ILIT). In paper I, an increased fraction of neutrophils were detected in the nasal mucosa of AR patients compared with healthy controls. LÄS MER
25. Innate defense mechanisms of the nasal airway
Sammanfattning : Allergic and infectious rhinitis are prevalent conditions that besides a direct morbidity also causes exacerbations of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The immune mechanisms associated with various forms of rhinitis are not fully understood. LÄS MER
