  1. 11. Prediction Models and Pharmacogenomics in Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency

    Författare :Edna J L Barbosa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; growth hormone deficiency; hypopituitarism; growth hormone replacement therapy; prediction models; candidate gene approach; polymorphisms; body composition; growth hormone receptor; lipid metabolism; extracellular water; pharmacogenomics;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study clinical and genetic factors that influence response to growth hormone replacement therapy (GHRT) in GH deficient (GHD) adults. The patients were part of a cohort of adults with hypopituitarism and severe GHD who were studied before and after 12 months of GHRT. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Leukocyte transmigration and gene expression in healthy subjects and patients with renal failure-application of the skin chamber technique

    Författare :Elham Dadfar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Renal failure; inflammation; skin chamber technique; leukocytes; adhesion mulecules;

    Sammanfattning : The migration of leukocytes from the peripheral circulation into infected or injured tissue is a fundamental step in the host-defense mechanism. The skin chamber technique is a well documented method for studies of leukocyte trans migration and function in vivo. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Ageing and inflammation with focus on end-stage renal diseases : genetic and epigenetic factors

    Författare :Karin Luttropp; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of ageing-associated disorders at a relatively young age in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) has led to the hypothesis that CKD is characterized by accelerated ageing, resulting in a marked discrepancy between chronological and biological age. Factors that accelerate biological ageing, such as inflammation, oxidative stress, and toxins, impact the processes of cellular senescence and/or apoptosis, thereby shortening the life span of cells, and consequently, of the organism as a whole. 4. 14. Novel biomarkers for detection of early acute kidney injury, renal recovery and bacterial infections in critically ill patients

    Författare :Niklas Jonsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Diagnosis of infection in the intensive care unit (ICU) is challenging because the signs and symptoms normally attributed to infection are quite common also in ICU patients without infection. This is a problem as delayed antibiotic therapy may increase the risk of organ failure and ultimately, death. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Studies on the inflammatory response in experimental acute pyelonephritis and its importance for the development of renal scarring

    Författare :Adli Khalil; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pyelonephritis especially in childhood is a serious and globally common bacterial infection. The infecting microorganism is often derived from the patient's own bowel flora and mainly affects the renal parenchyma and pelvis. LÄS MER
