  1. 1. On Derailment-Worthiness in Rail Vehicle Design : Analysis of vehicle features influencing derailment processes and consequences

    Författare :Dan Brabie; Evert Andersson; Roderick A Smith; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; derailment; bogie design; wheel-sleeper impact; simulation; deviation; vehicle inter-connection; guidance mechanism; substitute guidance; articulated train; railway safety; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at systematically studying the possibilities of minimizing devastating consequences of high-speed rail vehicle derailments by appropriate measures and features in the train design including the running gear. Firstly, an empirical database is established containing as much relevant information as possible of past incidents and accidents that have occurred at substantial running speeds due to mechanical failure close to the interface between the running gear and the track. 2. 2. Onboard condition monitoring of vehicle-track dynamic interaction using machine learning : Enabling the railway industry’s digital transformation

    Författare :Rohan Kulkarni; Mats Berg; Ulf Carlsson; Alireza Qazizadeh; Sebastian Stichel; Jordi Viñolas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Active preventive maintenance; intelligent fault diagnosis; anomaly detection; vehicle fleet; track irregularities; vehicle hunting; wheel-rail interface.; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The railway sector’s reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS) can significantly improve by adopting condition based maintenance (CBM). In the CBM regime, maintenance decisions are driven by condition monitoring (CM) of the asset. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Railway Track Stiffness : Dynamic Measurements and Evaluation for Efficient Maintenance

    Författare :Eric Berggren; Mats Berg; Laurent Schmitt; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Railway track stiffness; maintenance; soil dynamics; measurement; simulation; vibration; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Railway track stiffness (vertical track load divided by track deflection) is a basic parameter oftrack design which influences the bearing capacity, the dynamic behaviour of passing vehiclesand, in particular, track geometry quality and the life of track components. Track stiffness is abroad topic and in this thesis some aspects are treated comprehensively. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the Influence of Rail Vehicle Parameters on the Derailment Process and its Consequences

    Författare :Dan Brabie; Evert Andersson; Johan Oscarsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; train; railway; rail vehicle; accident; incident; derailment; bogie design; simulation; wheel; sleeper; impact; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at systematically studying the possibilities of minimising devastatingconsequences of high-speed derailments by appropriate measures and features in thetrain design, including the running gear. The course of events immediately afterderailments is studied with respect to whether the train stays upright and close to thetrack centre line or deviates laterally with probably serious consequences. 5. 5. Optimisation of Railway Switches and Crossings

    Författare :Björn Pålsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wheel and rail wear; railway turnout; optimisation; switch crossing; dynamic vehicle-turnout interaction;

    Sammanfattning : Methods for simulation-based optimisation of the design of railway turnouts (switches & crossings, S&C) are developed and demonstrated. Building on knowledge of dynamic wheel–rail interaction in turnouts, it is investigated how rail profile degradation can be reduced by the optimisation of geometry and component stiffness of the track superstructure.
