21. Tailored cellulosic materials by physical adsorption of polyelectrolytes
Sammanfattning : The growing interest in using bio-based resources has made forest-based cellulose (used as fibre and nanofibril building elements) a good candidate for the development of new materials. In order to be used in commercial applications, cellulose must however be processed and/or functionalized to provide the final material with specific properties. LÄS MER
22. Mesostructured particulate silica materials with tunable pore size : Synthesis, characterization and applications
Sammanfattning : Colloidal assemblies of surfactants and polymers in aqueous solutions have been used by human mankind for hundreds of years and they are of great importance in many of our technological processes, such as fabrication of soap and papermaking. Less than two decades ago the idea of using colloidal assemblies as templates of inorganic materials was borne. LÄS MER
23. Influence of fibre modification on moisture sorption and the mechanical properties of paper
Sammanfattning : Fibre modification might be a way to improve the performance of paper, to increase its cost competiveness and enable new paper-based products to be developed. Therefore, the influence of fibre modification (with polyelectrolytes or by fibre cross-linking) on the mechanical properties of special importance for packaging paper grades was studied. LÄS MER
24. Preparation, characterisation and wetting of fluorinated cellulose surfaces
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the wetting by oil mixtures of two different model cellulose surfaces. The surfaces studied were a regenerated cellulose (RG) surface prepared by spin-coating, and a film consisting of polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM) of Poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI) and a carboxymethylated Microfibrillated Cellulose (MFC). 25. Flame-Retardant Cellulose Fibre/Fibril Based Materials via Layer-by-Layer Technique
Sammanfattning : According to an analysis conducted by the Swedish Chemicals Inspectorate in 2006, the approximate numbers of fire injuries per year in Sweden are 100 deaths, 700 major and 700 minor injuries.1 Observations also show that there has been an increase in the number of house fires during recent years.
