   Sammanfattning : The leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains (LRIG) family consists of three integral membrane proteins that are important in human cancer. LRIG1 is a negative regulator of growth factor signaling. Its expression is associated with longer survival in several cancer types, and the gene has been shown to function as a tumor suppressor.    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study different aspects of health on a population based level for persons with four common forms of cancer and their partners, and from an individual level to explore the impact on the daily life situation of living with advanced colorectal cancer for persons with cancer and their partners. Population based register data was used to compare different aspects of health among patients with colorectal, lung, breast and prostate cancer and their partners before and after the cancer diagnosis. In the beginning of the study all persons in the Southern Health Care Region in Sweden diagnosed with colon, rectal, breast, prostate and lung cancer during the period 2000 to 2005 were identified via the Swedish Cancer Register.
