  1. 1. Behavioural Medicine Perspectives for Change and Prediction of Oral Hygiene Behaviour Development and Evaluation of an Individually Tailored Oral Health Educational Program

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Birgitta Jönsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ODONTOLOGY; ODONTOLOGI; Behavioural medicine; oral health education; Periodontitis; tailored treatment; self-efficacy.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about a behavioural medicine approach in periodontal treatment and oral hygiene self-care. The aim of this thesis was to develop, describe, and evaluate an individually tailored oral health educational program on oral hygiene behaviour and non-surgical periodontal treatment success, and to determine factors of importance for predicting oral hygiene behaviour. 2. 2. Nitrate, Nitrite and Nitric Oxide in Gastric Mucosal Defense

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Joel Petersson; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dietary nitrate; mucus gel layer; mucosal blood flow; mucus thickness; laser-Doppler flowmetry; mucosal damage; intra-vital microscopy; mucosal permeability; ODONTOLOGY Physiology; ODONTOLOGI Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The human stomach normally contains high levels of bioactive nitric oxide (NO). This NO derives from salivary nitrate (NO3-) that is converted to nitrite (NO2-) by oral bacteria and thereafter non-enzymatically reduced in the acidic gastric lumen to NO. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the Development of Mucin-based Biomaterial Coatings

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Universitetsbiblioteket

    Författare :Tomas Sandberg; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mucin; Biomaterial; Surface-exposed protein; XPS; Neutrophil; Cell morphology; SEM; QCM-D; Viscoelasticity; Protein-stabilization; HNL; Coating; MG1; BSM; PGM; SEC-MALS-RI; Mucin quantification; Protein adsorption; Ellipsometry; ODONTOLOGY Biomaterials; ODONTOLOGI Biomaterial;

    Sammanfattning : Owing to their key role in mucosal functioning as surface barriers with biospecific interaction potentials, the mucins are interesting candidates for use as surface modifiers in biomaterials applications.In this work, “mild” fractionation procedures were used to prepare mucins of bovine (BSM), porcine (PGM), and human (MG1) origin. Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to describe the development of oral health and possible associations with socioeconomic and socio-behavioural factors, in an adult population over a period of 30 years. A further aim is to describe attitudes to, and demands of dental care, and the impact of oral conditions on quality of life. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cleft Size and Maxillary Arch Dimensions in Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate and Cleft Palate

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Erika Reiser; Uppsala universitet.; [2011]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Unilateral cleft lip and palate; cleft palate; cleft size; maxillary arch dimensions; crossbite; facial growth; nasal function; Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Käkkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The wide variation in infant maxillary morphology and cleft size of children with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) and isolated cleft palate (CP) raise concerns about their possible influences on treatment outcome. The studies in this thesis aimed to investigate the relation between cleft size in infancy and crossbite at 5 years of age (Paper I); the impact of primary surgery on cleft size and maxillary arch dimensions from infancy to 5 years of age (Paper II); associations between cleft size, maxillary arch dimensions and facial growth in both UCLP and CP children (Paper III); and, to evaluate the relation between infant cleft size and nasal airway size and function in adults treated for UCLP (Paper IV).
