  1. 51. Greenhouse gas fluxes from drained peatland : Measurement techniques and management impacts

    Författare :Hannes Keck; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Agricultural use of drained peatlands has significant implications for national greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventories. Once drained, peatlands emit large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2), may become small methane (CH4) sinks and, with nitrogen fertilisation, may emit large quantities of nitrous oxide (N2O). LÄS MER

  2. 52. Exploring Yeast as a Cell Factory for the Production of Carboxylic Acids and Derivatives

    Författare :Diogo Portugal-Nunes; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Poly-3-D-hydroxybutyrate PHB ; Carboxylic acids; Alpha-ketoglutarate AKG ; Xylose assimilation; Weimberg pathway;

    Sammanfattning : Baker’s yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is a promising cell factory for the sustainable utilization of renewable resources for the formation of products with commercial value. Among these, poly-3-D-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) is an extensively studied biopolymer naturally accumulated in some bacteria and archaea species through the formation of carbon granules. LÄS MER

  3. 53. To “leaf” or not to “leaf” : Understanding the metabolic adjustments associated with leaf senescence

    Författare :Daria Chrobok; Olivier Keech; Per Gardeström; David Macherel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; metabolism; mitochondria; senescence; biology; biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The adequate execution of the final developmental stage of a leaf, leaf senescence, is crucial to the long-term survival of the plant. During senescence cellular structures like membranes, proteins, lipids and macromolecules are degraded and released nutrients are relocated to developing parts of the plant, such as young leaves, stems, flowers, siliques and ultimately seeds that are dependent on this nutrient remobilization. 4. 54. Impacts of pine and eucalyptus plantations on carbon and nutrients stocks and fluxes in miombo forests ecosystems

    Författare :Benard Guedes; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge of how commercial pine and eucalyptus plantations affect soil carbon and nutrient status is important in Mozambique, where incentives are available to increase the area of forest plantations and also to conserve mature miombo forests. Tree species growing on similar sites may affect ecosystem carbon differently if they allocate carbon to aboveground and belowground parts at different rates. LÄS MER

  5. 55. Poly (3-hydroxybutyrate) from a moderate halophile: production and modification for new applications

    Författare :Marlene Munoz; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biopolymers; polyhydroxyalkanoates; polyhydroxybutyrate; moderate halophile; Halomonas boliviensis; fermentation; recovery; thermally induced phase separation; scaffolds; covalent modification; hydrophobic ion pairing; polyethylenemine; lysozyme.;

    Sammanfattning : Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a homopolymer belonging to the family of biopolyesters, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) produced by different bacteria and archaea as intracellular granules often under conditions of metabolic stress due to a limited supply of essential nutrients. The properties of the PHAs are similar to those of polyethylene and polypropylene and can hence replace these fossil based polymers in a large variety of applications. LÄS MER
