  1. 16. Genetic Variation and Relatedness of Freshwater Pearl Mussel Margaritifera margaritifera L. populations

    Författare :Amra Hadzihalilovic-Numanovic; Larry Greenberg; Nils Ryman; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Margaritifera margaritifera; genetic variation; age structure; genetic distance; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The two papers presented in this thesis focus on population genetic study on freshwater pearl mussel populations in Sweden, using RAPD method. In paper I, I examine genetic variation within and between 5 populations in a single drainage area in south western Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Fungal and mussel protein sources in fish feed : nutritional and physiological aspects

    Författare :Aleksandar Vidakovic; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Fungal and mussel protein sources in the diet of Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis), Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and their effect on growth performance, nutrient utilisation, intestinal barrier function and post-prandial profiles of plasma amino acids and whole blood parameters were evaluated in this thesis. Apparent digestibility of dry matter, sum of amino acids and gross energy in experiment with Arctic charr decreased with dietary inclusion of intact Saccharomyces cerevisiae. LÄS MER

  3. 18. The use of protein biomarkers in ecotoxicology : Studies of oxidative and genotoxic stress in the blue mussel (Mytilus edulis)

    Författare :Andreas Prevodnik; Michael Tedengren; Tomas Bollner; Kari Lehtonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Ecotoxicology; ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many environmental pollutants, heavy metals and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) among them, are toxic by oxidative stress. Oxidative stress may be defined as a state in an organism when its inherent capacity to handle oxyradicals is surpassed, and it may result in peroxidation of lipids, and damage to proteins and DNA. 4. 19. Blue Oceans with Blue Mussels - Management and planning of mussel farming in coastal ecosystems

    Författare :Per Bergström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coastal management; Mytilus edulis; Growth; Planning; Modelling; Predict; Restoration; Mitigation; Aquaculture; Bioturbation;

    Sammanfattning : Eutrophication is one of the largest and most serious global threats to the marine environment. The effect of eutrophication has become increasingly clear during recent time, and major economic and political efforts are being made to tackle its causes and consequences in Sweden and its surrounding seas. 5. 20. Habitat compensation in nature-like fishways : Effects on benthos and fish

    Författare :Stina Gustafsson; Olle Calles; Martin Österling; Jostein Skurdal; Paul Giller; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biocanal; biodiversity; brown trout; freshwater pearl mussel; functional feeding groups; habitat heterogeneity; large woody debris; macroinvertebrates; PIT-tag; salmonids; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The construction of nature-like fishways has become an increasingly common measure to restore longitudinal connectivity in streams and rivers affected by hydroelectric development. These fishways also have the potential to function as habitat compensation measures when running waters have been degraded or lost. LÄS MER
