  1. 1. Functional Metallic Glasses

    Författare :Ansar Masood; Lyubov Belova; K. Venkat Rao; Lars Arnberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Bulk Metallic glasses; glass forming ability; soft magnetism; thin films; magnetic properties; magnetic hardening; plasticity; biocompatibility;

    Sammanfattning : For decades, Metallic Glass, with its isotropic featureless structure while exhibiting outstanding mechanical properties was possible only at a high rate of quenching and with at least one dimension in the submicron regime.  This limitation was overcome with the discovery of Bulk Metallic glasses, BMGs, containing three or more elements following the additional two empirical rules of optimum geometric size differences and negative energy of mixing among the constituent elements.     Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Alloy 825; FeTi70R alloy; non-metallic inclusions; inclusion distribution; clusters; electromagnetic and gas stirring; ladle treatment; electrolytic extraction; stirring directions; Alloy 825; FeTi70R legering; icke-metalliska inneslutningar; inneslutnings fördelning; kluster; elektromagnetisk och gas omrörning; skänkugnsbehandling; elektrolytisk extraktion; omrörningshåll; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap; Steel Forming and Surface Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : It is well known that inclusions affect the properties of steels and alloys. Therefore, it is important to understand what type of inclusions that exist and how they behave and especially with a focus on large size inclusions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Wettability and Agglomeration Characteristics of Non-Metallic Inclusions

    Författare :Changji Xuan; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wettability; non-metallic inclusion; agglomeration mechanism; attraction force; complex deoxidation; particle addition; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, both the wettability and the agglomeration characteristics of non-metallic inclusions in liquid iron/steel were studied by using both experimental results and thermodynamic considerations. The mechanisms of the wettability of different types of inclusions were discussed. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Investigations on the Oxidation of Iron-chromium and Iron-vanadium Molten Alloys

    Författare :Haijuan Wang; Seshadri Seetharaman; Ashok Lahiri; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Oxidation; High-alloy steelmaking; Retention; CO2-O2; Fe-Cr melt; Fe-Cr-C melt; Fe-V melt; Vanadium containing slags; Kinetics; Thermodynamics properties.; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : With the progress of high alloy steelmaking processes, it is essential to minimize the loss of valuable metals, like chromium and vanadium during the decarburization process, from both economic as well as environmental view points. One unique technique to realize this aim, used in the present work, is the decarburization of high alloy steel grades using oxygen with CO2 in order to reduce the partial pressure of oxygen. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Tailoring structure and morphology during additive manufacturing of metallic components

    Författare :Jithin James Marattukalam; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Ulf Jansson; Martin Sahlberg; Lars Nyborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Selective laser melting; process parameters; scanning methodologies; AMLOYZR01; bulk metallic glass; 316L SS; grain orientation;

    Sammanfattning : The work described in this thesis explores the use of laser process parameters to functionalize the material properties by the control of microstructure and optimization of morphology in components by selective laser melting. The microstructure in amorphous and crystalline metallic alloy systems is influenced by changing the laser power density and scanning strategies respectively. LÄS MER
