21. Knowledge-based speech enhancement
Sammanfattning : Speech is a fundamental means of human communication. In the last several decades, much effort has been devoted to the efficient transmission and storage of speech signals. With advances in technology making mobile communication ubiquitous, communications anywhere has become a reality. LÄS MER
22. Characterization and Separation of Suspension Cells by Isoacoustic Focusing
Sammanfattning : Enabling techniques for separating target cells, such as subgroups of white blood cells and cancercells from blood and other body fluids, are necessary for lab work facilitation, inline integration withhigh-end bioanalytical instrumentation, and for point-of-care or home testing. The work of this thesisaddresses this need by further studying an equilibrium-based ultrasonic wave-based technology calledisoacoustic focusing to characterize and gain access to cells. LÄS MER
23. High intensity and high gradient magnetic separation in mineral processing
Sammanfattning : Natural minerals often lack well defined magnetic susceptibilities. Instead they must be thought of as occurring in a susceptibility range where the bulk susceptibility is affected by present impurities. Inclusions or foreign atoms in solid solution may alter a materials magnetic properties to a large extent. LÄS MER
24. Neural limits of visual resolution
Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of this thesis was to formulate a model of retinal neural circuitry in humans based on morphological estimates of retinal cone and ganglion cell populations, to compare results based on this model to psychophysical measurements of visual resolution and identify the retinal neural factors that limit visual resolution.Materials & Methods: Total displacement of central ganglion cells from foveal cones was obtained by estimating the length of fibers of Henle in four human retinas along the nasal or vertical hemi-meridians. 25. Structure and Phase Stability of Polyelectrolyte-Macroion Solutions
Sammanfattning : Polyelectrolytes are polymers bearing ionisable groups, which, in polar solvents, can dissociate into charged polymer chains (polyelectrolytes) and small counterions. In aqueous solutions, polyelectrolytes interact strongly with other macroions and in particular they tend to associate with objects of opposite charge and form complexes. LÄS MER
