1. Aspects of analysis of small-sample right censored data using generalized Wilcoxon rank tests
Sammanfattning : The estimated bias and variance of commonly applied and jackknife variance estimators and observed significance level and power of standardised generalized Wilcoxon linear rank sum test statistics and tests, respectively, of Gehan and Prentice are compared in a Monte Carlo simulation study. The variance estimators are the permutational-, the conditional permutational- and the jackknife variance estimators of the test statistic of Gehan, and the asymptotic- and the jackknife variance estimators of the test statistic of Prentice. 2. Some Extensions of Fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Model : Arbitrage and Other Applications
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis endeavors to extend probability and statistical models using stochastic differential equations. The described models capture essential features from data that are not explained by classical diffusion models driven by Brownian motion.New results obtained by the author are presented in five articles. 3. Neural limits of visual resolution
Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of this thesis was to formulate a model of retinal neural circuitry in humans based on morphological estimates of retinal cone and ganglion cell populations, to compare results based on this model to psychophysical measurements of visual resolution and identify the retinal neural factors that limit visual resolution.Materials & Methods: Total displacement of central ganglion cells from foveal cones was obtained by estimating the length of fibers of Henle in four human retinas along the nasal or vertical hemi-meridians. 4. Design of High‐Speed, Low‐Power, Nyquist Analog‐to‐Digital Converters
Sammanfattning : The scaling of CMOS technologies has increased the performance of general purposeprocessors and DSPs while analog circuits designed in the same process have not been ableto utilize the process scaling to the same extent, suffering from reduced voltage headroom and reduced analog gain. In order to design efficient analog‐to‐digital converters in nanoscale CMOS there is a need to both understand the physical limitations as well as to develop new architectures and circuits that take full advantage of what the process has tooffer. 5. Modeling and Stability Analysis of Rate and Power Control Systems in Wireless Communication Networks
Sammanfattning : Wireless data traffic in cellular networks is currently undergoing a strong global expansion and the demand for high and reliable data throughput increases. Capacity is, however, a limited resource, and in radio resource management a trade-off has to be made between the congestion level, related to cell coverage and interference levels, and the Quality of Service (QoS) or data rates of the users.
