16. Aquaporins in Infection and Inflammation
Sammanfattning : The ability of eukaryotic cells to change their shape and to migrate directionally is highly dependent on active volume regulation in cells building up tissues as well as in individual cells. Transmembrane fluxes of water via specialized water channels, called aquaporins (AQPs), facilitate the changes of volume and shape, which additionally require a complex interplay between the plasma membrane and the cytoskeleton. 17. Studies for Better Treatment of Patients with Glioma
Sammanfattning : In Sweden annually over 500 people will be diagnosed with the malignant brain tumor glioma. They are graded from I-IV. The majority are glioblastoma (grade IV) (GBM), these being the most aggressive type. Median survival for those treated with standard of care is expected to be around 15 months. LÄS MER
18. Assessment of microvascular and metabolic responses in the skin
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this project was to develop experimental in vivo models that allow for minimally invasive investigations of responses in the skin to microvascular and metabolic provocations. The cutaneous microvasculature has emerged as a valuable model and been proposed to mirror the microcirculation in other organs. LÄS MER
19. Ultrasensitive Molecular Monitoring of Breast Cancer and Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Sammanfattning : Cancer is the common name to a group of biologically diverse malignant neoplastic diseases. Approximately 18 million people are diagnosed with cancer annually and 8.8 million patients die from it. Tumorigenesis and progression of cancer are driven by alterations in the cancer cell genome. 20. Studies on Tissue Factor with Focus on Cell Signaling and Cancer
Sammanfattning : This thesis have explored the functions of the protein Tissue Factor (TF), which together with its ligand coagulation factor VII/VIIa (FVII/FVIIa) forms a proteolytic complex that functions in initiation of blood coagulation and activation of cell signaling. In paper I, the mechanisms behind the observation that TF/FVIIa signaling protects cells from apoptosis were further investigated.
