  1. 1. Secondary ice production : An empirical formulation and organization of mechanisms among simulated cloud-types

    Författare :Akash Deshmukh; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice; collision; ice production; ice enhancement; secondary ice; sublimation; fragmentation;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds are essential elements within Earth's atmosphere, posing a challenge for cloud-resolving models in understanding the creation of new cloud ice particles from existing ice and liquid phases. Such ice initiation determines cloud microphysical and radiative properties, influencing cloud phase, precipitation and cloud extent/properties. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanisms for the Influence from Ice Nucleus Aerosols on Clouds and their Indirect Effects: Cloud Modelling

    Författare :Deepak Waman; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; Radiation; Ice Nuclei; Primary Biological Aerosol Particles; Ice particles; Secondary ice; primary ice; Aerosol particles; thunderstorm;

    Sammanfattning : The role of multiple groups of primary biological aerosol particles (PBAPs) as ice nucleating particles (INPs), and of ice formation processes such as time-dependent freezing of various INPs, and various secondary ice production(SIP) mechanisms in overall ice concentration has been evaluated in a range of cloud systems by simulating them numerically with the state-of-the-art ‘Aerosol-Cloud’ (AC) model in a 3D mesoscale domain. Also, the mechanismsof aerosol indirect effects (AIEs) arising from anthropogenic INPs, and the responses to these AIEs from time-dependent INP freezing and SIP processes are investigated in the simulated clouds. 3. 3. Numerical Studies of Methanol PPC Engines and Diesel Sprays

    Författare :Mateusz Pucilowski; Strömningsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Methanol; Partially Premixed Combustion PPC ; spray-wall interaction; piston geometry; multiple injections; ICE; ignition front; diffusion flame; combustion mode; RANS; LES; PPC; Diesel spray;

    Sammanfattning : The global environment suffers from utilizing fossil fuels to powering internal combustion engines (ICE), due to the massive amounts of released CO2. Besides the global impact, the local environments experience high concentrations of harmful pollutants such as NOx, CO, soot and particulate matter (PM). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Optimizing Ice-Resistant Surfaces: Unifying Self-Healing, Durability, and Functional Design for Superior Anti-/de-icing Performance

    Författare :Jun Chen; Yijun Shi; Pär Marklund; Marcus Björling; Jianying He; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Anti- de-icing; Machine Elements; Maskinelement;

    Sammanfattning : Snow and ice accumulation on critical infrastructure such as wind power turbines and power lines cause significant challenges and safety hazards in cold climate regions during wintertime. Research into anti-/de-icing technologies has been divided into two main streams, i.e., active, and passive approaches. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cosmogenic radionuclides in environmental archives – A paleo-perspective on space climate and a synchronizing tool for climate records

    Författare :Florian Mekhaldi; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comogenic radionuclides; 10Be; 36Cl; Solar energetic particles; Solar storms; Paleoclimate; Time-scales; Solar activity;

    Sammanfattning : The Sun is the primary source for Earth’s climate system. Its fluctuations in irradiance are also known to have an impact on climate. In addition, changes in solar activity modulate the atmospheric production rates of cosmogenic radionuclides (e.g. LÄS MER
