1. Studies of hyperandrogenicity and the metabolic syndrome in premenopausal women
Sammanfattning : An androgenic sex hormone profile appears to be a typical feature of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and a powerful risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes in women. The causes of relative hyperandrogenicity (HA) are not clearly defined. LÄS MER
2. Growth hormone and somatolactin function during sexual maturation of female Atlantic salmon
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: The growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor I (GH-IGF-I) system is known to act during sexual maturation of female salmonids, but the specific roles are not known. Somatolactin (SL) is a pituitary hormone closely related to GH and is only found in fish. In some species, including salmonids, there are two forms, SLa and SLß. LÄS MER
3. Long-term prognostic and predictive factors in hormone receptor positive breast cancer
Sammanfattning : The breast cancer survival in Sweden is good (almost 90 % 5-year relative survival) and has increased over time. For women with hormone receptor negative tumors, most relapses occur within the first 5 years after diagnosis. Thereafter the recurrence risk decreases rapidly. LÄS MER
4. Hormone-related dietary factors and estrogen/progesterone-receptor defined postmenopausal breast cancer
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer among women in Western countries including Sweden. It has been hypothesized that ovarian hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone may, at least partly, play an important role in the etiology of breast cancer. LÄS MER
5. The influence of status epilepticus on adeno-pituitary hormone secretion in man : with special reference to prolactin
Sammanfattning : Epileptic seizures as well as antiepileptic drugs (AED) may interfere with the hypothalamic pituitary axis (HPA) and have neuroendocrine effects. A transient increase of prolactin (PRL) and cortisol in serum after generalised tonic-clonic or complex partial seizures has been one of the most consistent findings, although absences and myoclonic seizures, as well as seizures of very short duration, do not seem to affect PRL levels.
