  1. 26. Thermally Expandable Microspheres Prepared via Suspension Polymerization - Synthesis, Characterization, and Application

    Författare :Magnus Jonsson; Eva Malmström Jonsson; Søren Hvilsted; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thermally expandable microspheres; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Thermally expandable microspheres are polymeric core/shell particles in which a volatile hydrocarbon is encapsulated by a thermoplastic shell. When these microspheres are heated, they expand and increase their volume dramatically. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Quality Assessment for the Improved Use of Recycled Styrenic Polymers : Application to packaging and electronic waste

    Författare :Francisco Vilaplana; Sigbritt Karlsson; Alfonso Jimenez; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning :  Polymeric waste materials should be considered resources for the manufacture of new products through recycling processes, with a similar status as virgin fossil-based plastics and biopolymers from renewable resources. Several efforts can be done to achieve this qualitative quantum leap and introduce recycled products in the market with competitive performance. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Melt flow and surface stability effects on polymer flammability : A study on polystyrene, flexible polyurethane foam and polyolefin composites

    Författare :Roland H. Krämer; Ulf W. Gedde; Norman C. Billingham; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Melt; flow; dripping; collapse; combustion; pool fire; feed‐back; gasification; heat release; flammability; nanocomposites; molar mass; intumescence; polyurethane; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Our ability to accurately determine the flammability properties of polymers is hampered bythe erratic effects of deformation and liquid flow that occur during polymer combustion.This study aims to improve the understanding of such effects at several levels: The often obvious impact of melt flow on standardized flammability test methods forelectrical appliances is described to identify the need and to motivate others to worktowards an improved material characterization. 4. 29. Mechanics of composites with fiber bundle meso-structure

    Författare :Normunds Jekabsons; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Sammanfattning : The presented thesis analyze mechanical phenomena in fibrous composites with fiber bundle sub-structure (woven composite sheet molding compounds (SMC) etc.). This sub-structure defines an intermediate meso-scale between the scale of individual fibers and macro-scale of the composite. LÄS MER

  5. 30. The creation of antibacterial fibres through physical adsorption of polyelectrolytes

    Författare :Josefin Illergård; Monica Ek; Lars Wågberg; Malmsten Martin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; antibacterial; polyelectrolyte multilayers; polyvinylamine; contact-active antibacterial surfaces;

    Sammanfattning : Contact-active antibacterial surfaces with irreversibly attached antibacterial com-pounds are a sustainable alternative to traditional biocides. No chemicals are released into nature and the antibacterial mechanism reduces the risk of the evolution of re-sistant bacteria. LÄS MER
