21. Congenital Heart Disease, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Sammanfattning : Worldwide, 1% of all live born children are born with a congenital heart disease (CHD) and currently >95% reach adulthood due to better diagnostics and medical care. At the same time, Diabetes Mellitus (DM), type 1 (T1DM) and type 2 (T2DM), is increasing worldwide. LÄS MER
22. Pharmacodynamic Modelling of Irreversible and Reversible Gastric Proton Pump Inhibitors
Sammanfattning : Acid related diseases like GERD, duodenal-and gastric ulcers and H. Pylori-positive peptic ulcer disease are primarily managed by reducing gastric acidity. Irreversible proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) inhibit gastric acid secretion effectively throughout the day by irreversibly inhibiting the gastric proton pump, H+, K+-ATPase, in the parietal cells. 23. Natural history of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias : findings from a population survey
Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral thesis is to increase understanding of the natural history of different types of dementia in a very old population. Five studies were performed using data from the Kungsholmen Project, a population-based study on aging and dementia in Stockholm that includes subjects aged 75+. LÄS MER
24. Methodological aspects and usefulness of Quantitative Sensory Testing in early small fiber polyneuropathy : a clinical study in Swedish hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis patients
Sammanfattning : Generalised polyneuropathy (PNP) is a common cause to neurological impairment, and may be an early symptom of a severe systemic disease. One such illness is hereditary transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis (ATTR), a progressive fatal disorder caused by a mutation on the TTR gene. LÄS MER
25. SOD1 misfolding and aggregation in ALS : in the light of conformation-specific antibodies
Sammanfattning : Mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene are linked to the progressive neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS-associated mutations affect the stability of the SOD1 protein and promote its unfolding. As a consequence, disordered SOD1 species can misfold and accumulate into insoluble aggregates. LÄS MER
