  1. 6. Stress and the Offspring : Adaptive Transgenerational Effects of Unpredictability on Behaviour and Gene Expression in Chickens (Gallus gallus)

    Författare :Daniel Nätt; Per Jensen; Berry Spruijt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chicken; Red junglefowl; Domestication; Epigenetics; Transgenerational; Inheritance; Gene expression; Microarray; qRT-PCR; Immunogenetics; Immunoglobulin; Estradiol; Steriod hormones; Prenatal stress; Epigenetic inheritance; Adaptation; Stress; Behaviour; Ethology of domestic animals; Husdjurens etologi;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental stress has shown to affect both the exposed individuals and the development of their offspring. Generally, it is thought that the stressed organism responds to stress by trying to adapt to it. LÄS MER

  2. 7. From wolf to dog: Behavioural evolution during domestication

    Författare :Christina Hansen Wheat; Hans Temrin; Clive Wynne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Domestication syndrome; behavioural evolution; behaviorual ontogeny; correlated traits; sociability; playfulness; aggression; fear; Canis familiaris; Canis lupus; artificial selection; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : Biologists since Darwin have recognized that domestication, where species are selected to live in human-controlled environments, exerts strong selection on organisms and dramatically impacts their evolutionary trajectories. Across domesticated mammal species, characteristic morphological, physiological and behavioural changes occur simultaneously, as correlated traits, a phenomenon known as the domestication syndrome. 3. 8. Stress in chickens : Effects of domestication and early experience on behaviour and welfare

    Författare :Maria Ericsson; Per Jensen; Linda Keeling; Bjarne Braastad; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The domestication is the process where animals have adapted to human conditions. A prerequisite for domestication is tame behaviour towards humans and subsequently, selection for other desirable traits took place which led to changes in several behavioural and physiological parameters. 4. 9. Survival of the Tamest : The Domesticated Phenotype in Red Junglefowl Selected for Tameness

    Författare :Rebecca Katajamaa; Per Jensen; Dominic Wright; Ruth C. Newberry; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; domestication; chicken; red junglefowl; tameness; brain size; behaviour; cognition; body size;

    Sammanfattning : Early animal domestication was probably associated with reduced fear of humans. Domestication is a process in which animals adapt to humans and the captive environment provided by humans. Selection on tameness as the only trait has previously been found to generate changes in other phenotypes in different animal species. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Genomics and Transcriptomics of Behaviour and Plumage Colouration

    Författare :Jesper Fogelholm; Dominic Wright; Göran Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genomics; Transcriptomics; Behaviour; Colour; Gene Expresssion; Domestication.;

    Sammanfattning : The aim throughout this thesis has been to investigate the underlying genetics of behaviours and feather colour and plumage patterns by using chickens as a model organism. Chickens are extremely important as a food source, both in terms of egg, as well as meat production. LÄS MER
