  1. 1. From wolf to dog: Behavioural evolution during domestication

    Författare :Christina Hansen Wheat; Hans Temrin; Clive Wynne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Domestication syndrome; behavioural evolution; behaviorual ontogeny; correlated traits; sociability; playfulness; aggression; fear; Canis familiaris; Canis lupus; artificial selection; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : Biologists since Darwin have recognized that domestication, where species are selected to live in human-controlled environments, exerts strong selection on organisms and dramatically impacts their evolutionary trajectories. Across domesticated mammal species, characteristic morphological, physiological and behavioural changes occur simultaneously, as correlated traits, a phenomenon known as the domestication syndrome. 2. 2. Evolution of MHC Genes and MHC Gene Expression

    Författare :Karin Berggren Bremdal; Hans Ellegren; Jennifer Seddon; Philip Hedrick; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; major histocompatibilty complex; dog leukocyte antigen; balancing selection; linkage disequilibrium; promoter; diabetes mellitus; Canis familiaris; Canis lupus; Erinaceus europaeus; Erinaceus concolor; Genetics; Genetik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Polymorphism in coding regions and regions controlling gene expression is the major determinant of adaptive differences in natural populations. Genes of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) possess a high level of genetic variation, which is maintained by selection over long coalescence times. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Consequences of the Domestication of Man’s Best Friend, The Dog

    Författare :Susanne Björnerfeldt; Carles Vilà; Elena Jazin; Daniel Bradley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular genetics; mitochondrial genome; Y chromosome; microsatellites; disruptive selection; breed structure; whole genome amplification; gene flow; linkage disequilibrium; Canis familiaris; Canis lupus; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The dog was the first animal to be domesticated and the process started at least 15 000 years ago. Today it is the most morphologically diverse mammal, with a huge variation in size and shape. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Conservation Genetics of Wolves and their Relationship with Dogs

    Författare :Anna-Karin Sundqvist; Carles Vilà; Hans Ellegren; Michael K Schwartz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular genetics; mtDNA; Y chromosome; microsatellites; breed; hybridization; domestication; introgression; predation; Genetik; Canis lupus; Canis familiaris;

    Sammanfattning : Management of wolves is a complex issue, and molecular genetics is an important tool in this work. Molecular genetics can provide important information at the species, population and individual level, which can be essential for the development of management programs aiming at the long term survival of wolf populations. 5. 5. Conservation genomics in inbred Scandinavian wolves using bioinformatic methods

    Författare :Linnéa Smeds; Hans Ellegren; Giorgio Bertorelle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; conservation genomics; Canis lupus; bioinformatics; Y chromosome; admixture; genetic load; structural variation; GWAS; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : With the recent and unprecedented progress in retrieving DNA sequence information from a large number of individuals of any species, conservation genetic research has entered a new phase. Specifically, it has become possible to study how genomes of endangered species respond to reductions in population size. LÄS MER
