36. Penumbra oxygen metabolism and acute neuroinflammation in ischemic stroke : MRI and PET imaging of a M2 occlusion model in rat
Sammanfattning : Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is caused by the sudden occlusion of a major artery of the brain, and results in infarction and severe ischemia within affected brain regions. If ischemic regions are rapidly revascularized, the neurological disability resulting from AIS can be significantly reduced. LÄS MER
37. Non-invasive EEG Functional Neuroimaging for Localizing Epileptic Brain Activity
Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is one of the most common neurologic diseases in the world, and is present in up to 1% of the world’s population. Many patients with epilepsy never receive the treatment which make them seizure free. Surgical therapy has become an important therapeutic alternative for patients with drug resistant epilepsy. 38. Middle Ear Cholesteatoma : Surgical Treatment, Follow-up and Hearing Restoration
Sammanfattning : Although middle-ear cholesteatoma is a major topic in otological research, its etiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. Pediatric cholesteatoma is considered more aggressive than adult cholesteatoma, as it has a higher rate of growth, is more often infected and exhibits wider extension. LÄS MER
39. Resection of colorectal liver metastases - Impact of preoperative chemotherapy
Sammanfattning : Background Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer related death worldwide. 20-30 % of patients will develop colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs). Surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment for CRLMs, and is often combined with perioperative chemotherapy, which can prolong progression-free survival after resection. LÄS MER
40. Growing up with one ear : central auditory structure and function in unilateral ear canal atresia
Sammanfattning : The following thesis aims to give more insight into the functional and structural response of the central auditory system to congenital unilateral ear canal atresia (UCA) and the accompanying asymmetric hearing with conductive hearing loss on the atretic side. There is clear evidence that unilateral hearing loss, including UCA, has a negative impact on sound localization ability and perception of speech in noise. LÄS MER
