  1. 1. Sleep in dairy cows

    Författare :Emma Ternman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Little is known about rest and sleep in dairy cows, but it has been shown in other species that the total amount of sleep, duration of sleep bouts and distribution of sleep over 24 hours differ depending on health status, age, pregnancy and lactation. Sleep recordings conducted on cows with surgically implanted electrodes have shown that they sleep four hours per 24-hour period. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Assessing phosphorus overfeeding in dairy cows

    Författare :Maria Nordqvist; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Faecal total phosphorus (TP) from dairy cows consists of a largely insoluble fraction and a soluble P fraction (SP), which mainly represents excess P. The soluble fraction increases proportionately with increased P feeding as excess P is mainly excreted with the faeces in soluble form. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Predicting methane production in dairy cows

    Författare :Mohammad Ramin; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, to which enteric fermentation from ruminants contributes significantly. Reliable and accurate predictions of methane (CH₄) production from dairy cows would be of interest to develop mitigation strategies and for national inventories. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Progesterone profiles, oestrus expression and pregnancy in dairy cows

    Författare :Sofia Nyman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The cow’s ability to reproduce is essential for milk production. Traditionally genetic evaluations for fertility have been based on measures on insemination- and calving dates, which in general are highly influenced by on-farm decisions. Unfortunately, the low heritability of classical fertility traits makes the genetic improvement slow. LÄS MER
