16. Generic Properties of Polymer Solutions
Sammanfattning : Polymer solutions are abundantly present in our daily life, for example in paints, jellies, contact lenses and even in the living cells. Despite their ubiquity, we still have a poor understanding of the physical properties of solutions due to the extremely large number of internal degrees of freedom. LÄS MER
17. Crystal plasticity and crack initiation in a single-crystal nickel-base superalloy : Modelling, evaluation and applications
Sammanfattning : In this dissertation the work done in the projects KME-410/502 will be presented. The overall objective in these projects is to evaluate and develop tools for designingagainst fatigue in single-crystal nickel-base superalloys in gas turbines. LÄS MER
18. Predicting Linguistic Structure with Incomplete and Cross-Lingual Supervision
Sammanfattning : Contemporary approaches to natural language processing are predominantly based on statistical machine learning from large amounts of text, which has been manually annotated with the linguistic structure of interest. However, such complete supervision is currently only available for the world's major languages, in a limited number of domains and for a limited range of tasks. LÄS MER
19. Simulating Functional Cycles and Drug Modulation in Ligand-gated Ion Channels
Sammanfattning : Understanding the intricate motions and conformational changes that govern biological processes remains a fascinating and challenging endeavor. The research presented in this thesis aims to elucidate the dynamic processes underlying biological functions, specifically focusing on the dynamics of pentameric ligand-gated ion channels (pLGICs), which play a crucial role in signal transduction within the brain. 20. Assessing the structural and dynamical properties of concentrated solutions of the disordered proteins Histatin 5 and its tandem repeat
Sammanfattning : Intrinsically disordered proteins are distinguished by a lack of distinct three-dimensional structure, existing instead as an ensemble of heterogenous structures. In this research, the effect of crowding on these proteins is investigated using a combined approach of experiment and computer simulation, mainly using coarse-grained simulation models to make simulation computationally feasible at the high concentration conditions crowding is displayed.
