31. Fibromodulin and Dystrophin in Atherosclerosis: Novel roles for extracellular matrix in plaque development
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease represents nearly half the cases of noncommunicable diseases worldwide and is the leading global cause of death. The main underlying cause is atherosclerosis, and in atherosclerotic plaque progression the structure, composition and integrity of a dynamic extracellular matrix (ECM) is one very important factor. 32. Ultrasound assessment of carotid atherosclerosis focusing on plaque characteristics and changes over time
Sammanfattning : In a clinical perspective better methods to identify subjects at increased cardiovascular risk are needed. Atherosclerotic plaques of the carotid arteries with low echogenicity have been related to future clinical events. LÄS MER
33. Imaging of coronary artery function and morphology in living mice - applications in atherosclerosis research
Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries is the major reason for myocardial infarction and cardiovascular death. In the clinic, several imaging systems make it possible to study coronary artery function and morphology non-invasively, such as transthoracic Doppler echocardiography (TTDE). LÄS MER
34. Defining the Role of GGTase-I in the Development of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : RHO family proteins control cell movement and intracellular signaling by cycling between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. Aberrant signaling of RHO GTPases has been implicated in many diseases including cancer and inflammation. LÄS MER
35. Atherosclerosis and Insulin Resistance AIR A cross-sectional study of 58-year old men
Sammanfattning : The main aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that insulin resistance is associated with atherosclerotic disease in the carotid and femoral arteries as measured using the ultrasound technique in clinically healthy 58-year old men with varying degrees of obesity and insulin resistance. The subjects were recruited from the general population and were free from clinical cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and treatment with antihypertensive, lipid-lowering and anti-diabetic drugs (n=818).
