1. Utilization of Decomposition Techniques for Analyzing and Characterizing Flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the utilization of two different decomposition techniques, proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and dynamic mode decomposition (DMD), for enhanced understanding of flow structures and their stability. The advantages of these techniques are shown for a range of flow situations, most of which are turbulent. LÄS MER
2. Electricity markets operation planning with risk-averse agents: stochastic decomposition and equilibium
Sammanfattning : The growing penetration of renewable energy sources in electricity systems requires adapting operation models to face the inherent variability and uncertainty of wind or solar generation. In addition, the volatility of fuel prices (such as natural gas) or the uncertainty of the hydraulic natural inflows requires to take into account all these sources of uncertainty within the operation planning of the generation system. 3. Boundary integral methods for Stokes flow : Quadrature techniques and fast Ewald methods
Sammanfattning : Fluid phenomena dominated by viscous effects can, in many cases, be modeled by the Stokes equations. The boundary integral form of the Stokes equations reduces the number of degrees of freedom in a numerical discretization by reformulating the three-dimensional problem to two-dimensional integral equations to be discretized over the boundaries of the domain. 4. Distributed resource allocation in networked systems using decomposition techniques
Sammanfattning : The Internet and power distribution grids are examples of ubiquitous systems that are composed of subsystems that cooperate using a communication network. We loosely define such systems as networked systems. These systems are usually designed by using trial and error. LÄS MER
5. Spectral Image Processing with Applications in Biotechnology and Pathology
Sammanfattning : Color theory was first formalized in the seventeenth century by Isaac Newton just a couple of decades after the first microscope was built. But it was not until the twentieth century that technological advances led to the integration of color theory, optical spectroscopy and light microscopy through spectral image processing. LÄS MER
